ok so Im looking at auto trucks, and I want to run bigger tires probebly 35's

so what would be better? on the high way empty doig 80

and in town?

Let me put it to you this way. I'm running 4. 10's and I'm just at 2400 rpm's at 78mph. My mpg's if I'm going down hill will still be in the 16's. The 3. 73's are the way to go, unless your a pull a holic!!

I'm not convinced the RPM difference between a 3. 73 and 4. 10 is enough to really affect mileage that significantly.

steved

For what its worth... . I noticed a 2 or 3 mpg drop going from 3. 73 to 4. 10 with same driving style. However, mpg when towing 8k lbs or so has gone up a few mpg. All depends what you're gonna use the truck for.

Which is PRECISELY why they have two different gear ratios. One is for heavy towing, the other for predominantly no- or light-tow work.

Except if you have a G56 (guilty) and then you're stuck with 3. 73s that act like 4. 10s #@$%!

I have 4. 10's with 265. 70 17's and I am getting ***** fuel milage (14-15) I am thinking about some 35" tires/. . 265. 70. 17 are about 31. 4"

If you should ever want to change from your 4. 10s to 3. 73, let me know. I have a set of 3. 73s and am interested in trading. I even live in SoCal.

I had 3. 73's and went to 35" tires and truck did not run as good down low and mileage went down. I added 4. 10 and truck runs alot better, almost the same ratio as original tires with 3. 73's. MPG went up around town and about same as stock on hwy.

what is the G56 trani and how do I know if i have it??

The G56 transmission is a 6 speed manual Mercedes unit built in Brazil for HD Pickups and Medium duty trucks. It's been around since 2002, but only in Dodge Rams since about March 2005. It replaces the NV5600, and also the NV4500 in gas pickups. You know you have it if reverse is left and down, first gear is marked "L" and it's a shorter throw than the NV5600.
