Question about backing up

Installed my 4" Siverline 409 SS exhaust today. Took about 5 hrs. It was more difficult to remove the stock exhaust than I thought it would be as I didn't want to cut any pipe in case my new exhaust did not fit. But, I could not get the slip joints separated or the down pipe out unless I removed the transmission cross member and skid plate, so, I finally got out the Dewalt recip saw and cut it, came right out. If I had to do it again I would cut up the old exhaust into a few pieces from the start. Took me 3 hrs to remove the stock exhaust and 1. 5 hrs to install the Silverline.

The Silverline fit up was very nice, some of the hanger arms are oriented differently than stock for ease of installation. The downpipe is a little shorter than stock so it installed easily. I cleaned up the old downpipe bolts and turbo flange threads with a tap and die and the bolts went back in very easy, also added a little light machine oil.

The tip of the exhaust pipe needed a little work before the nice 12 " X 5" tip would fit. I cut off a few inches and used a file to bevel the edge a little. Looked like it had been dinged up after it had been cut in the shop during fabrication.

The last thing is I think the exhaust is a bit loud in the cab when accelerating aggressively. It sounds nice at idle, and the sound level is acceptable in the cab when crusing speed has been reached. It is a bit loud when getting to crusing speed. I may have to visit my local muffler shop for a change.

I think Silverline should make a short bed and long bed model, it would eliminate an extra piece of pipe and a clamp for the long bed model which I think would add to the longevity and structural integrity of the unit. As it is, it ships with a 26" and a 33" piece, both of which are required for a long bed. This seems to detract from the otherwise nice quality exhaust system.

Not much good after the fact, but I've used a come along to separate the factory pipe on my wife's '03 truck. I attached one end of the come along to the rear frame and wrped the cable arongd the section I wanted to remove. It worked fairly well and took about 2 hours to separate the pipe, turn it around 180' install the Areoturbine muffler and slap it all back together. Has worked well for 4. 5 years.
