The muffler and resonator on my 1999 Dodge Ram2500 24valve cummins needs to be replaced. The garage said I would get better gas mileage, better performance, and less engine wear if I replaced the whole system from the manifold back with a true all 4" exhaust system. Apparently the original stock system which is still on the truck is not 4" all the way. $250 to replace the muffler and resonator and $1100 for the complete system. Is it worth it.

Thanks, Keith

 $1100 DAMN!!!, :--) is that dual 24k gold plated exhaust? You can get a dual exhaust for 800 and a good single for around $400. Man, go to e-bay and look at the MBRP, SilverLine, or Hog exhaust's that they have on there. I would also recommend staying away from that garage if there trying to screw you over that bad... . You came to the right place though, "TDR"... You will get a little better gas milage and lower EGT's...

CHolman is right on there--i got my complete w/muffler(or without) AFE 4" from the turbo back for $350. 00 through a local performance shop. also it was very easy to install myself-like 2 hours. save your self some $$$$ and stay away from that shop!!!

oh and welcome to TDR!!

oh and it also came with a pretty 5" tip too boot!!! Oo.

I got my MBRP system for around $300. Was definitely worth it.

Local exhaust shop said $450 for magnaflow installed.

I would shop around.

Keep in mind, these are aluminized systems.

Stainless is more.

What about the resonator

I looked online at ebay and found what you talked about at very reasonable prices. My exhaust system has a resonator in forward of the muffler but the kits online did not have that. Do I need the resonator? I would guess not.

My setup has a small short resonator and there is only a slihgt drone at 2100 - 2200. I usually cruise at 1950RPM so there is no problem for me. Outside it is LOUD, just the way I like ti!!

5" MBRP with muffler. Hardest part of the install was getting the old system out (you need a reciprocating saw and just cut it out). No drone what so ever! I think the "DRONE" tends to creep up with straight pipes regardless of size. A friend of mine has the exact same pipes as mine with no muffler and it annoys the crap out of me at 2000 to 2200 rmp on the highway. JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH!

KPfeiffer - not sure what you are running (no signature) but, like the rest of the guys say - do the full system. If you get stainless it will probably out last the body. The hardest part about installation (in the driveway mind you) was removal of the old system - a sawsall helped a great deal. And as far as installing an electric impact made quick work of things when holding the clamp with one hand and the pipe with both feet - of course other hand had impact. Stay away from that $1100. 00 shop system - probably wouldn't last you 2 years anyway. MHO

Glad that we could help, you already made your $35 "member ship" fee back, huh? I wonder how many people have been screwed over buy that shop and others?...
