I was looking at a kit today at the local muffler shop.

On a 4" setup, does the downpipe neck down to mount to the turbo?? (is that normal)

Also $400 to do 4" from the downpipe to the tailpipe. Straight piped and a stainless 4" tip. Parts and labor. That sound like a fair price?

About right on the price, nate...

Nate, that's about ballpark. In Fallbrook, CA (north SD county) I paid $ 170 last month to have the stock pipe from cat back done in 4" - pipe (eliminating the muffler). I asked how much more to re-do the rest (and maybe losing the 'kitty') from turbo down, and he said: $ 220 Add it up: $ 390, bout what you were quoted.

BTW, the increase in performance is very significant, nice throaty sound, EGT's under control, usually less than 1000 even with full throttle.

You'll see more increase, but more noise if you totally straight pipe it. I've heard too many guys do that, then regret it. Even the shop owner advised against it - he said: "Cool sounding - then you get tired of the drone when you can't talk to anyone without yelling. "

He's right I think, they way I am now, on hills with a load, it's right on the edge of being a bit loud - but I do appreciate the increase in performance, with the BHAF being installed at the same time, I can't say exactly say how much is due to which fix.

Now it has the 'Sound of power' ! Good luck on what you decide to do,

My truck has been straight piped since a few days after I bought it :D The only thing is that it's the stock sized pipe, 3"?

How's the sound nate ?

On performance, it seems like a 3" w/o the restrictions of cat or muffler should do great.

I was gonna go that route, but the exhaust shop owner gave me the hook for the 4" and I bit !

I'm happy now with the 4" cat back, no muffler route.

I do wonder what benefit (or negative) if I would either loose the cat, or at least knock it's stuffing out, while still keeping it the stock 3" from turbo to the new 4" part - can you or anyone advise ?

Best, David B.

i have flo-pro's 4'' dual aluminized steel turbo back kit(including a 4" down pipe which does connect to the back of the turbo) and two 5" stainless tips. i was quoted by the local exhaust shop in town at around seven to eight hundred installed. i thought that was high so i did some looking. found the best deal at www.rpmoutlet.com. the kit with down pipe and dual outlet muffler and tips was around $380. 00+shipping and handling. i had the same shop install it, and it cost $125. 00 to install. total was around $550 all said and done. spend the extra on the duals, it sounds real cool hearing the exhaust bounce off cars on both sides of the truck and seeing smoke roll out both ends too. sounds good with the muffler also, real deep but not annoying and not power robbing either(pretty much a hollow muffler just for the dual outlets) your deal sounds pretty good though.

I thought about the duals, but I don't know if I have room for them. My spare tire is a tight fit as is. Where would the driver's side pipe go??

very observant, much more than i was. plain and simple, it does not fit with that kit. the tip comes out in the exact place the stock one does, just on the other side of the truck. very clean looking. it is not that big of a hassle for me to have the spare tire in the bed of my truck. just depends on what you do with the bed.
