4 in. exhaust

looking at installing 4in. exhaust on 2001/2500. what you guys are going with,I will change from turbo back, pulling camper exh. temp at 70mph runs about 1100 deg. then i will start to install more hp after. just like to hear some reply about what you guys prefer in 4in exhaust system.

If you want the easiest to install and looks OEM the MBRP is the way to go. They have 100% welded hangers that install just like the OEM system, a totally packed muffler using a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool. They cost a few bucks more but are waaaay worth it to me.

I have installed a number of these systems and they are outstanding. I have also installed the systems that you have to use the exhaust clamps with the hangers welded on them... IHMO they are just plain junk and a pain in the backside.

I have Rip's 4" turbo back, and love it. I tow a 36ft 13000# fifth wheel. It is a little loud when truck is fully loaded, but not unbearable. Plus the price is right, and Rip is great to deal with.

MBRP 4 inch T409 stainless Turbo Back. Easy install since rods are welded to the exhaust in the spot where the stock hangers go. The downpipe is 4 inch up till it necks down to 3 1/2 inch (I believe that right... ??) at the turbo down elbow.



I would not use the exhaust clamps that comes with it but instead use the 4 inch SS band clamps (you need 3) which I got from Napa T409 SS for $10 apiece. You will thank me when you have to loosen it to re-adjust your exhaust. They won't crimp into the exhaust pipes like the stock ones do. You will see when you try to remove the old one. After 5 breaking screw drivers I got a hacksaw and I would not recommend that method... took forever. Tool of choice here is... SAWZALL.



The exhaust along with an AFE Stage 1 Proguard Air filter (or BHAF of your choice) were an awesome improvement for my stock truck. You need air in and out to get power. Gages are a must. I would be sure the muffler is high quality and at least 29-31 inches long to keep noise level down. Mine is 30 inch X 7 in diameter and straight flow thur and sounds good. My wife likes it too!



I got a good deal on the MBRP at www.xtremediesel.com which is free shipping over $200. I spent about $350 on exhaust. I got a $60 MBRP T305 SS 5 inch X 12 inch Double Wall Straight tip and it really looks awesome!



My turbo really whistles now. I love that sound. Here are some pics.

We have the Silverline too. It is the best value exhaust I have found. Every system, even the aluminized come with a Dual wall 5" SS tip and the T-409 Stainless even come with a T-304 muffler and the same tip in their kits. All of this for a price you won't believe. We carry the MBRP's too but they can't touch the price of the Silverline.

I have the 4" exhaust from Stan's Headers. It fit perfectly and has welded hangers in the right places. That package deal for the 24V from the above link looks like a super deal.

I stopped by Source Automotive last week when I picked up my track bar from Rip. They have a nice large shop with lots of storage space for the inventory they now have. I have the mbrp cool duals, and it was VERY simple to install. Take a sawzall to your old exhaust and get it out of the way, and then bolt up the new stuff. Took less then one hour for total exhuast install on my truck. Use the band clamps no matter whos you go with, its makes life easier if you ever need to move/adjust things, or take it off to do some other mod. Im not a muffler guy, but with the duals you have to run the muffler, and it sounds excellent, very deep sound, and its def. not too loud, but you can still here it for sure. Good Luck!!!!

The very first mod I did on my new 02 was put a PDR hx 35 turbo with a 12 cm housing. that alone dropped egts 150 and spooled as quick as stock. With the auto you have a Hy 35 and a 9 Cm housing. spend your money on that first and then exhaust.

I just made a 1600 mile trip after installing the Magnaflow SS 4" and the truck runs much better. Lower EGT's and more power, a tad bit better mileage (12mpg towing). Noticed most of the EGT change with just the BHAF but the 4" seemed to add the power and another pound of boost.

I may be missing something here, but the package prices on the above website seem to be substantially more compared to the Jardine prices just over the hill, i. e. $435 versus $275 for a 94-02?

Most likely you're comparing aluminized to 409 stainless at the prices you mentioned. The MBRP are approx 100. 00 less than what you said in aluminized, plus you get 100% welded hangers that pop right back into the factory rubber mounts, not clamp on that rust etc.
