Since installing the 215 injectors (see Sig. ) I have had a low rpm stumble. It has been recommended that delivery valves or going to a #4 plate will cure this problem. I'm curious what some of you think makes the most sense. I'm presently waiting for some 181 DV's from Piers, but I'm also a little intrigued about going to the #4 plate. If I do, will that lead to needing more modifications to make it run right? I. E. turbo etc. The stumble is a real pain when stuck in traffic. I would also be concerned about EGT's with the #4. I do have the amsoil filter and the exhaust can breath better now. Thanks

Need to turn your sig on.

Based on my experience with 215s and the #5, you'll need to go to at least a 16cm turbo housing in your quest to controll EGTs.

I'd go with the #4 plate if doing it again, based on what other have said, it has a better low and midrange than the #5. However, if the auto or clutch is suspect at all, it could be enough to cause early failure.

Good luck, Ronnie

Thanks Ronnie I'm not sure why my signature isn't showing. I just checked my profile and it appears to be set up to show it. It's a 95 with DDT transmission rebuild and TC, 3K GSK, exhaust opened up some and other none power related add ons.

no-strokin,

If you want your sig to show up on a post you have to click the "Show Signature" box at the bottom of the post page each time you post. The forums are set to NOT show a signature unless the box is checked.

No-strokin I have the same (almost) setup and I believe that stumble is the turbo lag. I get mucho smoke when I step on the throttle and a moments hesitation before taking off. :D

BillGotthelf: I'm not one to dispute your observation, but I see from your sig. that you don't run a Govenor spring. I wonder if the govenor might have a part in this stumble. I did talk with Piers and his suggestion was to run the 181 DV's. Apparently the 160 horse pumps came with either 131's or 151's DV's. I think mine are the 131's. Turbo lag is a wee bit noticeable also, and very well could be the culprit I suppose. The only time I have the stumble is at low rpm's (1K/1. 2K). The TST folks feel that the #5 plate with the GSK is not as good as a #4 plate would be. Due to fueling curves at low throttle on the #5. I will hopefully get the 181 DV's from Piers soon, and if that doesn't cure it I'll try the #4 plate as TST suggests. That being said, I'm wide open for more thoughts on the subject as I'm pretty much a rookie on these CTD's. If I've mistated any thing, please correct my ideas.

No strokin-exactly- I talked with Mark over at TST and was looking for more ways to hop up my 96. I have had the GS kit for the past 6 months and was going to have an company install them as well as "tune up" my injector pump. Mark said to leave well enough alone as I generally just tow with the 96 and any more power and I'll melt the damn thing. He also commented on the #5 vs #4 plate and the GS kit. The fuel/torque curves are different between the two and he said that the # 5 plate with the GS kit will hesitate more and not have as much powe as without the GS kit. He would recommend the # 4 plate with the GS kit but not if you're towing alot of weight.

I've got a #4 for sale if you want it. :D

Now as for the stumble, I have run with no plate, a #4, a #6, a 3k gov, a 4k gov, and the stock plate. None made any difference on the stumble. My pump had . 181s stock. The stumble would not go away until I put in some . 191s. I have taken apart three stock 911 pumps and they all had . 181 delivery valves.

Cummins Corvette; Sounds like you might have some 181's also you might be able to part with. I haven't received the ones from Piers yet. I know he's busy and might have not found time to get them on the way. Just in case Piers didn't have any to send me, what price would you be willing to sell your #4 plate for, and if you have DV's, how much for them.

I don't have any d valves; they're in my old pump at ATS. I'll give ya the #4 plate for whatever you think is fair. Remember that I had the 215s in mine with the . 181 valves and it still stumbled pretty bad.

No-Strokin' - I have a similar set up to yours. I just added the GSK and have no stumble. BUT, the smoke factor at low RPM has been almost eliminated. I was going to adjust it but I'm advancing the timing today and will be adding 181's within the next week.

C-vet - If NS does't take you up o the plate, I'd be interested. I'd like to try a #4 if I could get one cheap or trade my #5 with someone with too high EGT's.
