Archived 4 wheel drive disabled

Last night as i was pulling out on the beach for some surf casting my 95 dodge 2500 came out of 4 wheel, the dash indicator went off and the truck began to dig in. I was able to drop the rear tire pressure down to 15 lbs. and back off without getting totally stuck, but I wasn't able to reengage 4 wheel, the front shaft was locked in but no 4 wheel drive. I have the nv4500 with the np241hd transfere case. I have had the transfere case pop out a couple of times in the past but it would just shift back in. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

It may be the vacuum switch on the transfer case which engages the collar in the front axle. I had a similar failure and chucked the factory system for a posi-lok setup.

Definitely something to do with vacuum. Check all vaccum line connections especially the ones on the axle.

Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction. I'll check those lines and the shop manual has some tests for the switch and shift motor. Awesome help! thanks again
