Am I observing correctly the shift sequence on my 47RE?

It seems to be 1 ... 2... . 3... . TC/lock... . od

is this correct?

btw... transgo kit and Valvoline Maxlife Sure seems to work well.

Yup that's the way mine shifts, although running around town it can get agrivating around 35-40 mph with the TC unlocking and locking.....

With OD on the shift sequence is 1-2-3-OD, then T/C locks after 45 mph. With OD off, sequence is 1-2-3-T/C lock around 35 mph. bg

pattern

Funny, Mine does not appear to work that way.

1. . 2... 3 lock

1... 2... 3... lock OD

the lockup is barely perceptable with about a 100 rpm drop. The OD is unmistakeable with about a 30% drop in rpm. and is the last thing to occur.

It was not what i intially expected, but I have grown to appreciate it.

Now if I can just get it to downshift into 2nd after turning 90 degree corners at light/medium throttle. I have never had any auto trans shift well in that scenario, and I am regularly dropping the shifter into 2nd, just momentarily. (again at light, modest throttle). My Supra twin turbo did the same thing (another learning transmission... )

ah, found this old post. evidently the 2001 shifted as I noted. exactly what mine oes at light to medium throttle...

2000 -2001 Dodge Rams,

The shift pattern on these trucks, is different in that the (PCM)allows a shift from 3rd gear locked up to 4th gear locked up without dis-engaging the tc clutch .

Some of the 1999 Dodge rams have the same shift patterns as the 2000-2001 Dodge rams.

I have personally road tested 2 trucks like this. I have a guy on my web site with a 1999 Dodge ram that also has this shift pattern. I never actually looked at the production date on the 99 Rams with this shift pattern.

SHIFT PATTERN 2000-2001

1-2-3-3rd lock-up- 4th lock-up

Now keep in mind:

The tps can affect the tc clutch application.

The harder the acceleration can determine whether the tc remains locked or un-locked.

The shift patterns described above are with (light to moderate conditions ,70% or less of throttle position)

transmission shift and Maxlife ATF

I changed my transmission fluid and replaced the pan and filter with a Mag hytec and added the Max Life ATF, took the truck out for a test and the shift was definitely different, I could barely feel it shift from 1-2 and 2-3 was a little more noticeable, then turning corners I noticed what felt like TC drain-back, the hesitation and then slam into gear. I didn't like this one bit, so I stopped at the dealer and had them flush the Max Life ATF out and replace with ATF+4. It shifted like it was brand new, no hesitation on corners and the shifts felt firmer.

I bet money your fluid level was slightly low. Mine did that too. The electronic govenor sits on bottom side of valve body and sucks in unfiltered fluid. If level is slightly low, and a corner is had, it will do just that. Mine also did it with ATF+4 until I investigated where "full" actually was on my dipstick.

dip stick calibration

Since it has been an issue with incorrect trans dip sticks. And I had the afore mentioned issues. I would calibrate/ verify my dipstick level line by having a friend in the truck, in D with heavy foot on the brake, and engine running at about 1,000 rpm after engine and transmission was full hot.

my trans (47RE) seems to shift 5 times. acceleration from a stop to 60 mph
is this what I'm actually feeling 1... 2... 3. . lock... OD?
Also, cruising at around 30-35 mph the trans seems to go between lock and 3 back and fourth for no reason, or is it going from lock and OD? is this normal?

Man this is an old thread. Get and install the DTT filter. It fixes most TC cycling issues. SNOKING
