The following is how I have always performed the subject check. Drive the truck and get the trans up to operating temp. Park on level ground with the engine running and in neutral, remove the trans dip stick and wipe it off, fully reinsert the trans dip stick and remove it again and check the level indicated, which should be with the hash marks below the s bend. Check it a 2nd and 3rd time if you like just to be certain of your reading.

Today I read a piece published by Power Driven Diesel that cited the following after installing one of their units:
"We start with eight quarts and run it for 10 seconds. We then stop the truck and check the fluid level to make sure there are no false readings. The fluid level should be around the S-bend in the dipstick. After checking and adding fluid, if necessary, check level with the truck running, in neutral. It’s time for a test drive while checking line pressure."

Great article, I have not a clue how I'm going to figure out how to put my 47RE back in, it's been out for years, but that article is a great resource.

But a few key things they prefilled the TC in the photo, so 10qt from a dry Trans and prefilled TC is probably pretty close.

I usually was buying a case of ATF+4 and had something left over from what I recall with the stock pan.

Add a deep pan probably need more.

But this is a dry baseline, and I trust IF you follow their lead and prefilled the TC and had a similar pan it's on the money as a baseline, to then add from there.

Thanks for sharing.

A dry fill takes almost four gallons, 15.4 quarts. Proper fluid check on a warm transmission, park on level ground, pull the dipstick. Put the shifter in all gear positions, leave truck running and in neutral. Put the dipstick fully back in and slowly remove it. Level should be anywhere in the hash marks, preferably right in the middle.

Beat me to it! Most people don't run it thru the gears.

The ATF level on mine does register in the middle of the hash marks in neutral when hot and about a 1/4" above the s bend in park cold.

I miss read this one, they did 8qt and ran for 10s, I would think they would be short for sure at 8qt no matter how they did it dry, wet, full fluid exchange.

8qt might work for a basic pan drop as a starting point.

They mention flushing all lines and the sort, does not say "dry", assumed it was a replacement here, it actually says transmission swap.

There is a ton missing from the article before you run this thing to 150psi. But overall they do cover some stuff your going to run into.

It says toss them a text if you have any questions, I actually believe that they would get back to you and it's probably just an oversight on that part. Or they edited the thing weird and missed something in translation.
