I have a 98 model 2wd with a 47 RE and lately the truck seems to be sticking in second gear. If you get above around 2250 rpms the transmission will not shift from second to third unless you let off the accelerator and then once the rpms drop it will go ahead and shift. Sometimes it works fine though. Or if you are above said rpms you can shift into nuetral and then back to drive and it will go ahead and shift. Has anyone ever experienced this before and if so what is the cure for this problem. Thanks.

I've had it before, but it cured itself, then I went through the trans. If you have access to a scan tool, check and make sure the governor pressure is not sticking in one spot. That is one problem. Sounds like you probably have a stuck/sticking shift valve in the valve body, since it "works" if you put it in neutral & then back. Let me know if you get it fixed...

Irradict Shifting?

Hey all, my 02 2500 2wd does some odd things when to me it should just go shift, shift, shift and then lock up torqverter. It sometime won't move after setting a week til it idles a few minutes or I put in drive and back to park, sometimes won't upshift til you get higher in the rpms from a stop sign, after backing up and then starting foward in drive it won't shift til you get waaay up in rpms, say over 17-1800. Is there a code for these kinda symptoms? Took it to a dealer and they didn't show any or weren't sayin, its real close to 100m warrenty out so maybe they were smellin some big dollars for trans-torqverter repair/replace. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Tom L

Had mine do that too - worse when cold. Think it had something to do with one of the accum pistons being plastic and skrinking with age, but really don't have any specifics on this one. Dealers may have a bulletin on it though.

Mine did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. It wouldn't shift out of first, but I could manually get it into first and it would go through the gears, and then wouldn't start in first. It was the governor solenoid and transducer. I have a warranty and it is fine since changing both.
