Ok I have a 95' witrh the 47RH, is there a full manual valve body available for it that will work 4th gear and the TQ lockup?? Also what components inside the transmission do trans builders like DTT upgrade to withstand more torque??

Umm... . I hate to sound like a prick... but he just asked what they DO to make things stronger. Not the web page.

The various Trans companies use different billet pieces, mill some of the piston surfaces to allow for another clutch or 2, and up the line pressures.

Those are the basics. Which pistons? I don't know off the top of my head. The Billet pieces are used in high stress areas like the 3 shafts. Of course bringing the line pressures up also gives more apply pressure to the clutch packs allowing them to hold more torque.

Dave Goerend helped me rebuild mine. I replaced the aluminum caged planetary gears with steel ones, higher pressure valve body, and some springs and misc stuff he told me to install. Also used his converter.

As far as the manual OD and lockup, they're both controlled electrically with solenoids. I think all you have to do is bypass the PCM and hookup switches to both of them.

Can i get a manual valve body for mine???? Like Full manual controll with no regard to what the govenor is doing?? and How difficult was it to rebuild your transmission???

Thanks, Travis

A full manual valve body, I'm sure it could be done. I'd give Dave Goerend a call. He's a master at knowing and understanding the mystery called valvebodies.

I haven't done it myself, but I've a buddy who has done a few. You need special press tools for some of the assemblies. LOTS of springs and things in there.

Swapping out the valve body or TC isn't a big deal. But proper torque is important on the VB.

Best bet is a buddy with a transmission shop who doesn't mind you messing with his tools for a few nights. Or just shuck out the bucks. :p

It wasn't bad at all to rebuild, and Dave will tell you the same thing. Only the OD section requires a press, assuming you want to break into it. I ordered an assembled section from Dave with new clutches, bolted right on. No other special tools required, except for cheap calipers that I already had. If you're curious, try it. I guarantee you'll learn tons and if something goes south down the road you'll have no problem tearing into it. You'll also realize that some transmission builders simply scare people out of their money.

Just rebuilt mine and all went well, except for the seal I missed during reassembly :{ I had to drop the transmission and go back into it. But overall, if you can handle major engine work, a transmission overhaul is not that bad.

A couple of tips:

1 Take your time

2 Cleanliness!!!

3 Watch for orientation of shims and seals

4 You'll need a dial indicator and a pair of calipers

5 Get the ATSG manual!

6 Proper shimming of the transmission going back together is essential! Dodge didn't

nessaceraly shim it correctly in the first place.

7 Check for availability of shims at your local dealer/parts store

8 A press is required for the overdrive unit. It has a spring with 800 pounds of

force behind it. Special tools are required for properly setting the OD up

correctly. (you can get by without them, but it is difficult)

9 A front clutch compressor tool is very handy

10 A buddy also comes in handy

11 Overhaul sections at a time, do not tear apart more than you need to all

at once

12 Cleanliness!!!

13 Take your time and triple check as you go along

14 And last but not least, Cleanliness!! This is not something you want to do

around in a dirty environment. ;)

I bought all of my parts from a reputable transmission shop and had the luxury of bugging them for information etc. while rebuilding my transmission. My buddy, another loyal TDR member, was also very valuable.

Well I have now decided not to rebuild my own but I will evuantually buy one from most likley Dave if not DTT. But I really want a manual VB and I will continue searching for one.

Call Dave G. and ask him about a manual valve body. He educated me about a 700R4 upgrade for the wife's Camaro a few weeks ago.

ATSG stands for automatic transmission service group . it is a trade assn like ATRA , automatic transmission rebuilders assn . the atsg manual is ok , but i would suggest a motor domestic transmission manual also . that and a good digital camera to take some photos . i have worked in a transmission shop for over 15 years now , and if you are new to this stuff photos can help . go for the six pinion planetary gear sets also .

bakerjohn, I bought the ATSG Manual for the 727/904 transmission and I think the Chrysler Factory Service Manuals have nearly the same information in them. If Chrysler offers a FSM for a transmission specific models, say 47RH in this case, I would buy that instead. Does anyone know if Chrysler offers rebuild manuals for transmission by model? I may have to call them tomorrow.

Cummins360, Try this site http://www.redrider.us/727_parts.htm, they pretty much have it all. TransGo, Superior and I think even Mopar Performance line offers Valve Body Reprogramming kits, shift kits etc. I bought one for my 727 that is either/or there's a plate you can bolt on or take off for full manual control as well as the other up grades in the pkg.

On that site I posted above in the Dodge Performance Transmission section, click on Dodge 500 / 518 / 618 / 46RE / 47RE Transmissions and about 2/3 of the way down they list their builds with part availability for each build. You get an idea of component upgrade with that chart. I learned a lot just visiting that site along with all the other name brands in the transmission game. DTT was one of them, they have a forum too. I spent countless hours there reading old posts, very valuable information if your mechanically inclined and would like to build it yourself.

Edit, here I'll throw a link in to one of the better breakdowns of the transmission I have seen, real good read here minus the overdrive portion of the later Chrysler automatics.
