Not much to report. Everything is still progressing well. Second test is over but no teardown results. The thrid and final test is just getting started.

Any news yet Carlton.

My RAM 04 48RE is in right now for rebuilding 28,700 miles.

Any word if the 3rd test and tear down is done??

I am pushing for e-brake approval through my dealer. How can I get it??

It will be March before we know anything about the third test. It's only 25% complete now.

I have no idea about getting approval through the dealer. DaimlerChrysler owns/pays the warranty, not the dealer, unless they are offering some additional coverage. I don't think DaimlerChrysler will approve the 04s because of the thust washer change that occurred later (read earlier in this thread for more details on that issue).

Screwed 04 owners

Carlton

do you have a feeling about the 04. 5 trucks? or are we in the same boat as 04 owners :{

As I said Carlton... My TRANS IS BLOWN NOW.

New Thrust washer WILL be installed. NEXT WEEK :D

As well as basically a full rebuild.

I have read the entire thread Today alone and have monitored it for the longest time.

Just curious if you think I would get the approval without the software but WITH the washer??

I'm not sure. The late MY04. 5 trucks (with the new thrust washer) may receive approval. I still don't know exactly when during 04. 5 that change occured and I don't know if DCx will make that destinction or just assume that no MY04. 5 trucks will be approved. That will be up to them.

Without software and with washer - I don't think there is any way that will be approved. The software is very important because of the protection features. Even with software and thrust washer in an older vehicle, that sounds like a very specific situation for such a broad warranty as Dodge offers. Servicing a truck to retorfit new changes into an older model doesn't sound like something DaimlerChrysler would normally consider. Again, DaimlerChrysler is in charge of the warranty, so my guess as to what they will / will not cover is of no real consequence. . .

Too bad DC will only warranty the truck and not the misrepresentations given by their sales people. I would have gladly waited 6 months to buy the truck or ordered another 6er rather than pay 41K for a truck that does not meet my needs. :-{}

Dodge transmission

Carlton, I too have been following this for some time, and bought my "03" Auto with the understanding they would be approved for an exhaust break. Oh well, I am just waiting for the DC Auto to explode, then an aftermarket transmission from one of the CANADIAN shops will be installed :D

Carlton,

If D. C. doesn't want to upgrade our "used 04. 5" trucks, will your authorized Cummins repair shops have access to the software to download into our computers?

Carlton,

Sorry if this is splitting hairs, but if I were to spec out a truck today would it be built with the appropriate internals and able to be reflashed when the software became available? :confused:

Gettin' mighty itchy ;)

He has already said the required hardware is in '05 and software update is all that will be needed (most likely). That was one of the reasons I ordered my '05. :)

Mine was missing the thrust washer from the factory. Completely missing the thrust washer. The truck was downshifting extremely hard. When the mechanic took checked in there, the washer was never installed. He had to replace the thrust bearing and a few other parts. Now it's fine. So I guess now all I need is the software and the E Brake, right?

Believe me, I did. The missing washer caused rubbing and wear on some other parts. They replaced everything. The dealer is really a good one. He was very apologetic. I told him that he should be on the phone with DC telling them about this. He assured me that he would contact the regional rep.

Has anyone here heard of D/C telling thier "dealers" to basically disconnect any brakes that come into a shop for repair, or pretty much any complaint related to its operation? :confused: I was told by a service person today that D/C came up with this policy a while back, and also to not stock or order any parts for these units!!! :eek: What mine is doing some of the time is failing to release when I hit the go pedal. Seems to be very sporadic when it does it, seeing as how I can not determine if it will shut off or not. I've sprayed down the shaft of the brake itself and cleaned the vent on the solenoid, and am thinking about hooking up a test light of some sort to see if this is an electrical problem or possibly vacuum related. Any ideas Carlton?? Anyone else? TIA, Mark
