Here's hoping...

I'm still trying to figure that out. It will probably be a couple of weeks but nothing has been finalized.

My truck is built and on a rail car somewhere. It would be nice to "have it all" from the get-go.

Thanks, Carlton :)

Reading this thread is kind of a big "oh s$%t". We took delivery of our 05 RAM 3500 CTD automatic Saturday. We will be towing a 13,000+ pound trailer and had planned to install an e-brake. Were not discouraged at all by our dealer. But now I understand it might be detrimental to the transmission but somebody is conducting some testing. It there any liklihood that something positive will result any time soon? I note this thread is about 2 years in the running.

To get the most info out of this thread just read Carlton Bale's replies. Becareful right now it's a real warranty issue if they (dealer) sees that e-brake on there.

I'm in the market for a new truck. I want another Dodge CTD with automatic transmission and exhaust brake but I will not go through the pain and expense that I did with my 2000 2500 CTD. I paid dearly for early BD auto transmission "enhancements" that were very unsatisfactory. Finally, ATS TripleLoc soved the problem (for another $3500 which was well worth it by the way). I'm considering looking at Chevy or even Ford if Dodge doesn't solve this problem soon. (Maybe they should have a talk with ATS!!) I really don't want anything but a Dodge, maybe I'll keep watching this string a while longer..... (Thanks Carlton)

I am new to all of this. Please tell me what you mean by BD brake engaged. Don't mean to be so stupid, but there are a lot of acroynms that I dont know what they stand for. Thanks

BD is a manf of Exhaust brakes among other things and to say "BD brake engaged" would mean that he had the exhaust brake activated to slow vehicle.

Hey Carlton,

Any word on that transmission tear down??

All was OK on the third transmission. Now for the difficult part . . . software. Not sure which model years it will be backwards released for. I'll let you know when I know.

Carlton,

As with everyone else, I am grateful for your postings. But, I have one curiousity, since you are with Cummins why isn't DC working with you on the transmission or isn't this a DC problem and not yours? We are probably lucky though that DC is not doing it :>).

Thanks again.

Pete, it's been a cooperative effort between Cummins and DC to get this validated. Because the engine is so integrated into the vehicle electronically, there is a lot of coordination required. DC did all of the transmission dyno testing and a great deal of the software development. Jacobs, Cummins, and Mopar all participated in the vehicle tests. I have to give credit where credit is due: there have been a bunch of people at DC and Cummins doing a great deal of engineering work. Mopar and Jacobs have both been involved throughout as well. It just somehow ended up that someone at Cummins (me) is coordinating things between the various groups.

Carlton,

I too want to thank you for all your efforts and time spent keeping the TDR group informed about the "Jacobs" E-brake for the ISBe/Dodge aqpplicaitons.

Personal, I have no need for the newer design, as I have the 03' HO version of the "Jacobs" E-brake. All I can say, is the E-brake I have is an awesome addition on the Cummins TD engines! I wouldn't be without one!

Thanks Again,

Wayne

Thanks for the update Carlton.

Since you are in touch with Chrysler etc on this could you put a bug in their ear and tell them we need a 4'th gear lock-out and tow-haul. It would be great if this was part of their software update.

Thank You

Carlton,

This is so ironic. My son has been hauling full time with his 04. 5 auto and called me last night about who he met. He was buying fuel in Indiana and said he received a compliment about his truck for a guy named Henry Stuart (spelling). He introduced himself as being on the DC 48re desing team (I think). You probably know him if I pronounced his name right.

Anyway, thanks for the informative answer.

Pete

P. S. He said about 80% of the truck hauling that he has met are driving Cummins with most of them autos and no transmission complaints.

For the record I think DC/Cummins have been going about this EB thing all wrong. They have been so secretive and shady about the approval process. I would have appreciated it if at some point they would have officially told us (like when the thrust washer issue was discovered/changed, that those of us with 03-04 48RE's would not be approved for EB's. Instead they've strung us along telling us the whole time that 'it will be approved soon' , and in effect SELLING automatic trucks! I would have ordered a 6spd if I had known, and I'm sure others that buy into DC's garbage are still buying autos thinking that any time now they'll be approved.

For the record I think it's great that Carlton posts/replies here, it's great to have that kind of a resource on TDR. I just disagree with the dishonest PR side of the whole issue.

Thanks for the updates and of course please let us know when you here what year trucks will be qualified by the results. I know work and this thread keeps you busy but would you please pop over to this thread https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126470&page=1&pp=15 and have a look at it and see if you have any input. I know it is asking alot to do that but with you working for CTD you might have some input.

thanks

John

What?? What would a mileage relash and the info Carlton is providing about the 48RE and an exhaust brake have anything to do with each other?

I think once the dust settles on the EB he would like some input on the mileage problem and flashing the computer.
