Engine and transmission wiring

Some time back (as in a couple years ago) I bought a sk48re shift kit from transgo along with some other parts recommended by members here to go along with it. Due to life circumstances, I'm just now getting around to the install.
My question is, would it be worth buying and installing the slip in bands that I see people talk about while I have the pan and valve body off?

I wouldn't as long as the set screw isn't flush with the jam nut after adjustment.
The flush screw is the indicator for a worn front band.

Seems logical enough. I haven't looked up a procedure yet, but I've heard adjusting the band is pretty straight forward and I plan on that being part of the process.

All you need to do is follow the instructions from TransGo to the minute and read the install manual at least three times in full before you even start with the process. It can be confusing in some places.
I had a TransGo in mine and it worked flawless for almost 10 years all the way till I decided to upgrade the whole transmission last fall.

Do you have any recommendations as far as skipping any of the hole drilling or anything like that? Seems like almost every post I come across is someone saying they installed one but didn't drill this hole, or that hole, or skipped a step or some such variation.

I didn't drill any holes first to see how I like it and it was good.
TC lockup was nice and crisp.

Going back in to drill a hole is easier then try to seal one up that was to much, that was my thinking then.

Have read in the past that guys adjusting bands had major issues afterwards,so be careful. If memory serves me right the spec is in inch pounds not foot pounds.
Do you know if the issues were due to improper procedure, wrong torque spec etc? Or is there some other reason adjusting the bands causes issue? I'm no transmission expert, but it doesn't seem like adjusting something to spec would cause an issue....but I've been very wrong before lol

It's been close to twenty years now, think it was not using the right torque values.

I'm thinking about doing a valve body kit in my '05 48re.
What are the other parts you are installing? solinoid? etc?

This thread is a month old , how did it work out ?

I put a kit in my '99 47re and it really improved it. I used a SMR overdrive VB kit in my '99. Ive used Transgo also

I haven't done it yet, and honestly I bought the parts so long ago that I'd have to look and see which parts I got. It's a superior shift kit, I believe an accumulator and a servo, along with a different apply lever and billet anchor... could be wrong but those are the things that come to mind at the moment.
I'm hoping that when I get around to it, it will make it pull better in 1-3 before TC locks up. Once my TC locks, it holds fine for what I do.

Superior shift kit ? Thought Id search that. I cant find anything on their website and no phone number
