Hello. . I'm playing with my 05 a little. I'm doing a Suncoast triple disc next month, and I'd also like to just install a shift kit. Who makes a nice shift kit that will make it hold decent power. I'd like to run mid 13's if possible. . Thanks. .

I'm in the 12's with a late 47re. the transmission is bone stock with a Goerand tripledisk in front. I'm starting to get a little flair shift between 2nd and third. I think that transgo diesel shift kit is one of the better kits. They are real user friendly.

Reb B. ,

Ive been running my 05 on occasion at the track and I can barely hit 15. 0. My problem is that my transmission holds 3rd to long and when it finally upshifts its to late. I trap about 89 mph with a 2. 2 60'.

Im not sure what my transmission is... 47re or 48re or what.

My mods are quad race box, strait pipe with aero turbine, afe intake.

Should i upgrade to a better torque converter and if so with this help my 1/4 mile time trap and shifts?

Any tips would be grateful... ... I gotta beat my buddies 6. 0 powerpuke, which is in the mid 14's.

thanks..... Jake

you have an 05 so your trans is a 48re

well it sounds like you need a lock up switch. I hit mine at the line, i put the truck in drive, and when the truck hits second gear, it locks the converter and hang on real tight.

Dtt

I was very happy with my DTT transmission on my 01, I think they have a update kit of some sort that is in essance a shift kit, I would give them a call and see what they have. They are realy nice folks and stand behind their products... .

Does Transgo or Fairbanks make shift kits for the 48RE? I believe I've seen them for the 47, though not for the 48. .

Lock up switch huh? Ok... I will start researching those..... Any suggestions?

48RE... ok thanks... I thought it might be that but wasnt sure.

Before i search... one question... The reason my truck hangs on to third gear so long when im drag racing and holding it to the floor is my torque converter isnt locked up? Hence a lock up switch is needed?

are you racing in tow haul or regular, I find I have better accelleration in tow haul since it locks up after the 3 and 4 shifts... .

You want it in regular O/D. Hit the lockup switch and when the truck hits second, then the converter will lock and it will shift at 3K every gear. To much HP will blow through the converter when it is not locked. The transbuddy by dunright is a well built V/B kit but is way over done and will take you a hole day to do. Also for drag racing i found that you do not want lock up in all gears. I've found that the transgo does the does fast and efficiently. The dunright is nice where you get a 100% gain in pressure where the trans go is only 50%. The dunright is better, but is 3 times the price and three time the effort and time.

As for my trans, i tightened up the band already and it still won't hold. For 4 months i've been trying to figure out a defuelling problem in my truck everytime it shifted, ... . i found out that the trans was slipping a little in every shift. I'm not woried, i'm gotta install thses billet input and intermediate shafts and put the V/B kit in then.

Im racing in the non-tow/haul mode. By the time it hits 4th gear youre just about to the finish line so there really isnt time to let it lock up. So im not sure it would do any good.

Im looking at the transbuddy but the link above doesnt give any prices... ?

I still have yet to find the transgo but Im still looking.

Sorry to thread jack Morse.

not sure if it would do any good, lol! do you think you would go faster if you were putting down 70% of your power to the ground or 100% of your power to the ground. Thats why you need to lock it up at 12 MPH instead of 80 MPH. My truck with 28. 5" tall slick, with 3. 73 gears in O/D runs out the back door at 3200rpm at 111 mph. The transbuddy is anywhere from $90 -$115 and the transgo is anywhere from $25-$85 depending on which kit and how much volumn you buy. A fair price for the better transgo is $55.

I have over $5,000. 00 in Hardware in my Trans, it still De-fueled, it is electronic, the Triple dog took care of the De-fuel problem But now on extreme it slips somewhere,I am open to suggestions on how to Hold 550hp 1100TQ , I may have to go and get a complete build from DTT and try it. The ATS TC holds, it is in the Drive section.

If I don't mind the added install time and paying the extra 60 bucks for the Dunrite, is it the better choice for holding more power?

I put in he transbuddy kit and full rebuild and his triple lock, it rock now, changes the whole style of drivving, and mileage too, will every pay for the upgrade, yes if your figure the transmssion was full of metal and need a rebuild anyway.

My truck only has 5300 miles on it. . I just wanted to do the transmission so I could take advantage of the new turbo (SPS 62). . I know if I don't do it right away, it will cost me much more in the near future.

I can help you get a Dunrite kit or you can call Tony @ Dunrite direct but he is very busy.

I do complete trans rebuilds and use Dunrite Transbuddy kits and Converters.

The kit is involved but doable.
