Well I did it and have registered for bid on dovebid.com.
I went to see some of the assets today. The are 4bt with at t19 transmission,1978-1989 gruman trucks on a ford E350 chassis.
At least all of these are running units in reasonable condition.
If I get one I am taking out all of the drive train and putting it in my 53 GMC 1/2 ton as part of the restore.
The 4bt are all rotary pumps, it seems that the inline P7100 will not hit the auction market for a few more years.
The guy that showed me the asset had a lot of good information and we seems to hit it off very well.
He said the inline pumps were noiser
but got better fuel mileage and seemed to have less low end power than the rotary.
(that can easily be fixed :-laf )
Now for some info for your conversion guys, there is two different mounting positions for the turbo, mostly a low mount like under the exhaust manifold. And a high mount like ontop of the manifold. Their was no intercoolers on any of these engines :{ . There were two different type of vacumn pumps, the V-belt drive sitting on the upper right as you look at the front of the engine and a gear drive vacumn pump that was still on the right side but behind the front plate. According to the gentleman I talked to, he said the gear drive pumps lasted a lot longer. But if you have a gear drive pump it eliminates the power steering pump option.
I will keep you guys informed If I get one of the vans.
Lets see If I can get one for a good price????
