DAMN! No smoke this weekend

Diesel into a ski boat?

I'm attempting a VERY ambitious project to say the least

1967 m715 I'm totally rebuilding from the ground up

I'm trying to rebuild it with a 4bt, dodge nv4500hd divorced np205 and a dana 60/14 bolt 4. 56 geared with a detroit in the rear out of a m1008 cucv truck.

and I'm running 1100x16 michelin xl tires (38. 7)

problems so far.

i really want to run air conditioning so it looks like on steve graham's site he has a/c capable motor mounts (for the sanden compressor to bolt to)? anyone know where to get these or are they 6bt mounts?, and it APPEARS the motor mount is set back on the motor farther????? no point in fabbing motor mounts now, only to have to cut them down later.

i have a 2wd nv4500 with the slip yoke rear end, and need to convert it to 2wd GM for length concerns. anyone know if i have to lose the syncro reverse? anyone have these parts used?

what are the two spring controlled levers on the rotary pump? upper was connected to the throttle, but the lower was not connected to anything.

ill need wiring help/suggestions later

also the thing was rebuilt in 92, and is cpl 858 and listed as 4bta, but no intercooler was on it

Congrats on the project! M715's are one of favorite trucks, especially those with a CTD power plant. Unfortunately those motor mounts are custom, be glad to help with some dimensions if I can. The lower lever is the manual engine kill.

good luck,

Steve

looks like you have a good start with it, 11. 00r16 xls looking at buying a set right now for another project.

I would think you could run the slip rear yoke to the divorced case and still should be able to have close to equal length driveshafts? equal is nice ding one, break one, just interchage them.

Could also look in to marrying a 4500 to 205 useing 4x4 dodge 4500 output and 1st gen 205 off a gerag. or going to gm rear output and gm version 205. do a search in this forumn for the info on these two options. I know this stuff interechanges but dont know the specifics on the loss of reverse synco.

Where are you located? A/c in a m715? lol, sounds like a huge pain. email steve to see what he used?

also look around on the 1st gen board for the VE pump spec spring stuff, not sure exactly what you are looking at, or pic and i can look on my dodge.

does your m715 have a np200 case in it now?? if it does I am interested in buying it if available?

simple cummins manual on the motor should be able to help on the motor wiring and probably the ve pump stuff.

Post some pics and update it here as the project goes!!!

steve got in just before me, blah

i love the 715 also, i was looking to do a 6bt in one, but the guy has four and would not sell any of them to me. I will keep trying to get one from him.

I'm not much 4bt help, but, there is an m715 forum at www.m715zone.com, and I know there have been several diesel converters there. 6bt fershure, 4bt maybe. The archives are searchable. G'luck, and have fun, Alan-dieselhead, M715 owner:)

That's leftovers from the orginal forum, I think you'll find the web forum much more active. I didn't know that was even ople still...

Im very familiar with the M715zone. thanks for the suggestion though. Ive updated my home page for anyone who is interested

http://homepage.mac.com/ltalessi/Menu17.html

i should have the transmission taken care of by next week. im really just out of money.

but so far im enjoying this. i need to have it done by november as i have a trip to wyoming scheduled in the truck!

THE NP200 is available, but ive got to try and adapt the brake drum setup to the np205. what you gonna use it for? you may want to post on the 715 zone. i think the guys throw them away there.

ok, the np200 is a 205, but different output points. the parts interchange, you can make a 205 to a 200, but its easier just to find a 200.

You are spring over on the rear and spring under on the front??? why, interesting mounting on the front.

Also curious where you got your tires?

yep, ive updated the page again on aug 9th (if you went before then), and its spring under front, spring over rear.

the tires were purchased new through michelin at 300ea. they are expensive, but i have never balanced them and they ride smooth..... MVPA (military preservation assn) members got them for 300 ea, 450 was reg price..... i dont know if the deal is still on, but could find out if you thought you wanted them

ouch i was looking for tires, but leaing toward the good used market, been quoted anywhere from $200 a set to $175 each, with 80% or better thread, and the $175 were 95% thread.

I have heard about the mvpa workings on the tires.

My question on the springs is why? front is under and rear is over? I dont see any reason by looking at the pics that it should not be spring over on the front, just by extending the factory spring mount, which would be cake compared to outboarding the springs like i have had to do. I am not to familiar with the m715 as I wish I was, if this was factory setup then i understand, but the m715 that runs around here has them on soa with a lift and runs a 38 and the tires are a touch to small, but I love the height it ended up at, and its firehouse red and sticks out and i have tried to purchase it from the guy three times.

back to the tires, you mount them on stock chevy 16" rims? have you had any problems with leaks? i have heard the possiblity of having a hard time sealing, and falling of the bead on truck rims vs the military rims due to a different tire bead?

ok.

i dont need/want the extra 6" of lift in the front, that would require weird mods to the rear. my truck will clear the 38. 7 michelins with no lift, and no rubbing so i dont see the benifit of increasing the center of gravity... ... the factory had it set up spring under front high steer crossover steering. 6 inches of lift makes it top-heavy and that much harder to get in. then like you said, if the 38. 7" tires look good now, then 6" of lift would look small. i dont want to try and get any bigger... .

outboarded springs is how it comes.

so i want my truck to be a continuation of what the truck may have evolved into. jeep is owned by chrysler/dodge/benz so i figured a cummins was natural.

the tires were on tubes on the stock military rims. they are not on tubes on the stock 8 lug rims, and dont leak. the military HUMMER rims 16. 5" dont have the safety bead. mine are 16" tires with 3/4 inch beads
