I’m looking to buy a used 4th gen real soon. I’ve owned a 98, 04 and 02 that have all been great trucks. I can’t afford a new one at the moment but looking to spend sub 50k. I drive a lot, around 30,000 miles a year and I’m a masonry contractor. I believe I want a 2012 or newer so I don’t have to deal with the Re-gen issues, unless that’s silly? Should I shoot for the Aisian transmission, or does it really matter? Are there specific years that are better? I feel like I’ve been through it all with the second and third gen trucks and would would feel comfortable buying a used one. Not so much with the 4th gens!

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Go for a 2015 to 2018!

I have a 2012.... been bulletproof... most times it's the prior owner and not the year that creates issues....

However DEF trucks have a more reliable emissions system. And the Aisin transmission option became available in pickups.

My 2014 has been good to me over the past 4 yrs that I've had it. Gremlins do pop up at times! Just over 165K on the clock, 35K is the time I had with it. FIL had it prior since 53K. Normal maintenance and TDR are highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the price is right on the 2017, pull the trigger and enjoy! :)

How much do you tow SH? Only asking because my masonry guy never pulls more than 6-7K and while an Aisin is nice it's hardly needed for that.

I’m about the same, typically I’m putting 2500 to 4k in the bed. I might go big and yank 3 pallets of stone in the trailer and have the truck full of tools and mortar.

My 2019 3500 is by far a better truck than was my 2005, 2011 or 2015! Great fuel milage and plenty of power with the "normal" 6.7 and non-Aisin. I'd go 2019 and up if you can swing it.

I probably should've asked the same question, but didn't think to. I wanted a regular cab long bed and they seem to be pretty rare. I lucked out in getting a low miles 2015 for a decent price a few years back. It has the 68RFE, but it seems to be doing OK at the moment. I'd love to swap my NV5600 into it, but sort of doubt I ever will. (unless a problem necessitates it)
