2012 Ram 3500 6.7L Crew Cab Longhorn
A warm, slow, drip sound came after running the engine 5 minutes (no load, 60 degrees out), and then turning the key to "off." The dripping sound lasted a few minutes. The warm drip sounded like it was hitting other metal on the truck.
Checked oil immediately, dipstick high. Checked 5+ hours later, dipstick 1-1/4" ABOVE the SAFE bar on the stick.
Found: new oil at the top, rear most of the engine (under the dash board), passenger side. ISO anatomy chart so I can better inform, Overall question is this, with the dipstick 1+" beyond "SAFE," could the oil level be the culprit of this new leak?
She (the truck) has been sitting on a level surface. Shop did the oil change less than 1,000 miles ago, 3 months ago. Spouse did the bulk of the driving (dump and lumber runs) prior to Sept 15 and would not have noticed.
I'm thinking the overfill is an issue that needs to be resolved by the shop - but moreso the leak. I'll go back to doing my own changes because I accommodate the crankcase filter in my filling (less than 12qt).
Before I contact the shop, want to check my analysis with you, as maybe I am off my rocker.
What would you lean toward in the problem solving approach?
~192k miles Rotella T6 oil.
