I traded the Truck in on a 2009 got a good deal. I pulled the Brake and other accessories and will be putting both brakes on Craigslist. I really like the way the new 6. 7 exhaust brake works and the new Auto Trans works great

Thanks for all the advice

Wow, that's exciding. Tell us more about the truck and post pictures. Congratulations.

I just read this and I sure hope I am not going to be one of the club. I have installed PRXB Pac Brake on my 04. 5 manual transmisssion and I have noticed that I have more blow by coming out of the vent tube. This brake works great and I can’t believe the braking power I have. I will be keeping an eye on this.

Is using the brake during warm up a bad idea?

NO..... It will increase the soot level in the Oil. . But after several years and checking the soot level . it only lowered my service interval's by 1K sooner during winter months.

Four things in above posts are worth mentioning again:

clean, non-restrictive air filter

don't shut down when egt's are still hot

change engine oil when installing new turbo, and regularly thereafter

don't blame the brand of exhaust brake, although the way one is used might contribute

In Books Terms Yes, In Practical Terms No, It is Possible to blow oil out the Vent Tube if the Brake malfunctions, the PRXB has a bypass hole that may become adhere to the primary butterfly this will create excessive back pressure. This is extreme Unlikely... The man is on his 4th Charger??? We’re the greatest amount of pressure Going to be, In the Crank case (Out side of the cylinders). Lack of lube is the Only reason for 3 chargers to go bad ( I can come up with). I would run the New charger with the PRXB disable for 10k.

There are MULTIPLE ways for turbos to fail... . not just "lack of lube" that commonly gets blamed.

I would be interested in seeing one of the failed turbos. And would like to know what materials the cartridge is made of. More specifically, is this a ball bearing turbo or slipper bearing? I would assume that the thrust bearing is made of an alloy containing copper??

Excessive axial loading of the shaft assembly can be caused by excessive inlet air restriction, on the low pressure side of the system, can also load the thrust bearing excessively due to a clogged charge air cooler.

Was the charge air cooler replaced after the first failure??

If not, D/P needs to be checked across the CAC. .

When changing tubos, we install an inlet screen on the supply side of new turbo and run the engine for several minutes, then remove the screen. And definitely make sure they are lubing turbo and manualy spinning shaft before finishing the install.

Are they replacing the cartridge only or complete assembly?

Does the truck have an IMAP gauge? What is max. boost you are seeing at WOT?

Hows the new truck treating you? How many miles do you have on it now?

Do you have any post-sale knowledge of the old truck?
