Air Down

I was stuck in 10" of snow on top of unfrozen "tiger crap" clay. I aired down my front tires until there was a healthy bulge on the front. I was then able to slowly crawl foreword on a steep side slope above a creek. A bulging tire and the weight of the Cummins was what saved me. I was behind our house which is a good thing because I would not have felt comfortable driving my truck at road speed with that low of air pressure. A ford bronco thought he could yank me out. All he did was bounce his off a tree on the bank of the creek!

i recently got pulled out of the mud by a non lifted 1/2 ton single cab 03 hemi, if that wasnt embarassing, he had a hard time trying but he got it done, i think the cummins is just too heavy, i have lsd and 37-13. 5 toyo mts and without a lot of wheel spin mts or even ats wont clean out enough to grab ahold, if you want to go, you cant be scared to get rough with these trucks, or maybe thats how i snapped my left front axle shaft and busted the right side u-joint. :D

You think thats bad, I got pulled out by a Honda Rubicon! :-laf Well, maybe not pulled "out", but more like pulled loose. It was all witnessed by a group of Chevy guys with 1/2 tons who had made it through easily. I couldn't get rough with it because I had trees and trucks on both sides of this logging road.

Hammersley, Come on give me the same approach speeds so we can compare apples to apples and then we can talk. Check it out the 72 Ford looks like he is trying to hop it up on 2 wheels.....

the only probelm i have with my dodge off road is the fact its 2wd, but thats nothing new. if the rear isnt loaded down or i dont have my all terains on then it slips a bit but the locker always locks up and i either power throught the wheel hop or abck off it and ease into it again...

sorry to hear about your troubles...

in my powertrax site - see if that doesn't convince you to buy it!!!!!!!!!

It sure does, BUT, your PDF file does not show our application. This is posted on the 3rd gen site, and 3rd gens had AM axels. If you do have them for AM's then please enlighten us or update your site.

Like was said before tires, tires, tires. But even with good tires its the nature of the beast. Lots of torque at low rpm = easy to spin the tires and not enough wheel speed to clean them. The best solution I have found is leave the trailer where you can get to it.

good luck

I had one of those Powertrax units in my old Dakota that had a 9. 25 rear. Loved it, took me in some pretty amazing places! The speed in that vid doesn't make a difference, it's a locker, both wheels are locked, speed doesn't matter. I was STOPPED with one rear wheel a foot or so off the ground, truck teetering, had to reverse. ONLY 1 rear tire was on the ground. That tire allowed me to move out. The only beef I had with that unit, it made the rear feel a bit "loose", kinda wish washy feel, and the occasional "pop" when going around corners real slow. Put alot of miles on that thing, and for the most part, I loved it! It allowed me to get up this thing #ad
and one of me on a trail run made for Jeeps #ad
The only truck that has any type of posi in the front is the Power Wagon, period. Unless you count the H1.

Or a Jeep Rubicon, if you can call that a truck.

I do not like the powertrax no slips, I've seen a few grenade offroad.

However, I have run the powertrax lock rights for years. Here's my current rig,

I had the No Slip in mine. Like I said, no probs with it during the 2 years I had it in, but I never did REAL extreme stuff, mostly enough to lift tires, sand dunes, and muddy trails.

Hey SKargo, cool Jeep ya got there :D

Coolslice, man, I mean how could you? A Honda is bad enough, but with Chevy guys watching??? You should never, ever admit to anyone that it happened! LOL.

IIRC at one time Ford offered a limited slip option for the front diff.

I would not admit it if it wern't for the fact that there were several guys standing around snapping pictures. :-laf The fact that the pics have not turned up on the net is pretty amazing. To put an end to the laughter, I offered to use that same logging chain and hook up to any Chevy there on dry ground. . Nobody wanted to take me up on it??? ;)

i took a second gen guy up on his tug o war offer, he was kind of mad because as i was dragging him down the road his front driveline snapped, i got it on video and will try to post it soon... :-laf

I have a vid of a G2 in a tug with a square PS Ford (mid 90's) and with the hopping that Ford did, I'm suprised that it didn't snap anything.

thanks guys. but don't ford have full locked front end when you lock the hubs. i love my dodge i just don't like the limited slip. didn't the 1st and 2nd generation have a true locking 4x4 . thanks again fellas .

No, when you lock the hubs on a Ford you are just engaging the outer stub axles to drive the wheels... just like the Dodge and Chevies are all of the time. Chevy, Ford, and Dodge all function the same as far as their part time transfer cases are concerned. They distribute 50% of the torque to the rear and 50% to the front when in 4wd. In the full time 4wd systems used in lighter vehicles their is some difference in % distribution and what happens when one wheel starts to spin.

Heck, Ford and Dodge both use the NP271/NP273 transfer cases in their 3/4-1 ton trucks!
