Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 5 speed output seal

hey guys I have the 5 speed manual transmission with 2WD. When I went to the transmission shop to get my fluid changed the mechaic showed me some fluid leaking out of the transmission right where the driveshaft entered the transmission. He called it an output seal and said it would cost $150 for the fix. My question is do I even need this fix it is barely leaking just a little moist no drips nothing on the pavement also has anyone else had this problem? Thanks nick.

I had to replace mine. It's fairly simple. The hardest part is removing the drive shaft. Just pull the shaft, pry the old seal out, knock the new one in, grease the yoke up a little, and button her back up. You are dealing with an aluminum case so don't get crazy.



There are 3 different seals. They are different sizes so they are easily identified. I got mine at the Dodge dealer. He had 2 of the 3 in stock. Took one of them and crawled under the truck to identify it. No problem. Seems like it was around $30. 00.



I would go ahead and fix it. It will leak a good amount when it goes for good and I wouldn't want to take a chance of running mine low, not to mention the mess under your truck and the smell of hot gear oil on the pipe every time you stop.
