Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 53 Block Cracked - ISB215 to ISB190 Swap Questions

Hello all, my 53 block has cracked and neither Cummins nor Dodge will do anything about it so I am looking to swap in a "new" motor. I have located a good running 1999 5.9L engine in a Ford Medium Duty F800 local to me. My "old" motor is an ISB 215 and the "new" motor is an ISB 190. Fuel rates are different, 80 versus 87 and the timing noted on the tag of my "old" motor says 100 MM, whereas the "new" motor's tag says timing ELECTRONIC. Does anyone know if these motors are interchangeable and the ISB 190 motor will run correctly with my "old" ISB 215 brain? Thank you and good day.

Hello, the 98.5 24V 5.9L Cummins is engine # 56458131. The "new" 1999 motor is engine # 45784162. Also, it is mated to an Allison transmission, but the seller says it is the same bellhousing as on the Dodge automatic transmission. Thank you.

Why not just use your ecm, injection pump and injectors out of the Dodge engine? You would have to confirm the internals are the same but that would probably be the best route.

Thanks for the feedback. Will carry over all externals onto the "new" engine. I think the new engine runs off a 100 pin connector versus 50 pin for the Dodge. This could get messy. Anyone ever done this?

Just took a minute and checked a few things, sorry for the delay.

Have both engines up on separate screens, if you have any questions please ask now.

Pistons and Rods are the same
Cylinder Head is the same.

Flywheel Housing is NOT the same. You will have to change it from what I am seeing.

You are going to have to treat the purchased engine as a long block and change parts accordingly I believe.

Thank you Mike! Will do. Same lift pump, injection pump, and injectors? I don't know how I will mate the new engine with the old harness yet. I just need to get in there (will do on Sunday) and will post more questions then. Thank you.

Injection pump and injectors are indeed different, you will have to change them. Seth tried a truck VP-44 instead of a dodge VP-44 one time and it did not work out well. You are going to have to change just about everything on the outside of the engine over. The fuel transfer pump is the same at least.

Oil Pan and Sump Tube are different as well. Those will have to be changed out. Dodge is rear sump, the donor engine is front sump.

One more thing, where do you source Cummins parts, gaskets, etc.?
