Gentlemen

With all this talk about the 56 Honey being gone forever, did you know that it is alive and well living on. The only thing is you have to buy a Chevy or GMC. I believe thats the manual they use, just different gearing.

Alright guys correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, GM uses the ZF6 and it begins to have input shaft problems with any real addition of power. It also runs a dual mass flywheel that doesn't like power upgrades, hence why GM would only put the LLY behind the auto and detuned it for the hand shaker guys. I sold mine and went to a Cummins.

I've never seen a Chevy or GMC Dmax with a manual. Didn't even know such a thing existed!

JC Billion (wishful thinking?) Dodge of Bozeman, MT told me the Dmax didn't have a manual, only the allison. Two days later I got back to Moran and voile we had two company replacement trucks with Dmaxes and 6 speeds. This was the third time they lied to me in the process of checking out prices while buying the three CTDs. Needless to say, they did not earn my business.

The Dmaxes are real puny pulling a loaded horse trailer (eight horse slant loads) or a loaded gooseneck flatbed off the line - no bottom end torque. The run okay rapped running down the highway.

Actually, wehad hoped that if we ordered diesels with a six speed manual we would end up with Cummins, but no such luck.

They (GMC) do use the NV4500. If you need gaskets for your PTO covers on the 4500 or 5600 request part number 15535012 at your favorite Chevy parts counter (since DC does not support this part).

That is good info!!! I never knew that, and would prefer gaskets to using RTV.

and the nv3500 transmission gm and DC uses has the same oil as the nv5600... so if you are into keeping factory fluids, the GM nv3500 manual transmission fluid will work just swell in our nv5600's

Alright!!

Sorry I did'nt get back until now. Thanks for straighteing that one out. Hey camp does GM make this ZF6?, if not who makes it?. Is it any good.

I can't recall exactly who makes the ZF. It is a fairly good transmission but, has its downfalls, as I mentioned. Ford runs the same transmission in their hand shakers.
