driveline swap what do I need to run the 48RE

Looking at a V10 to 24 valve converted truck

i'm three months in and the rig finally runs ands moves... the 92 cummins fired right up... . mounting the engine into the 59 frame was rather easy after boxing the frame and using the 92 crossmember... . the nv4500 cost more than I thought it would, wish i knew the bellhousing and adapter were different before buying the 4500 all I have to say is thank god for ebay($125 for bellhousing and adapter) . for your info a getrag vintage flywheel will work with a thick adapter and starter. I had to fab every crossmember from the front bumper to just forward of the rearend I thought i had it handled till I tried to morph 98 4" EXH system into the confined space. Getting a hydroboost and the hyd clutch modified onto the stock linkage was a fun few days. getting a jeep steering box and idittit column made life simple(idittit columns are a quality product). I had to go to the local peterbuild store and dig thru all their charged air stuff to get the AFE air cleaner routed to the HY35 turbo(got it cheap).

The only thing the stock computer does is heat up the grid I'm using the crank sensor and inlet temp sensor and it sems to work great. The remote regulator charges @ 14. 1 volts into dual redtop optimas. Im using the factory dash for temp and oil pressure, voltage, boost and pyro are remote gauging.

I have to get shocks mounted, brakes done and spend a day getting a few minor wiring issues dealt with than I get to run it put in the big injectors and crank up the pump..... the pics I have a few weeks old but will have some better pics tomorow

What was that about a remote voltage regulator?

Did not the '92 have it built into the computer?

Thanks

Way too cool, love the late 50's chevy trucks.

Too many years ago I restored a 59 LB factory

4x4, the thing really a true beast.

I hope you are using an updated suspension:D

I used a remote regulator after reading about all the problems people had with computer controlling input..... I bought a 4" long spring lift kit from skyjacker for mid eighties big block suburban put the shackle mounts under the frame and it came out perfectly level... . will get newer pics soon theses are a month old

Awesome Oo.

I'll keep an eye peeled for that one when I'm in your neighborhood:D

Back to the using a remote regulator.

How did you bypas the computer? Or, do you not have that ecm in there (or need it) at all in this vehicle?

Thanks

If it ever goes up for sale, I wanna be the first one to know! I had a '59 Chevy longbed fleetside and a '59 GMC stepside, and I am still kicking the crap outta myself for ever getting rid of either one! :mad: :( :{

Unlike that Fargo panel that was repeatedly listed on eBay about 10,000,000 times, this thing appears to be done RIGHT (i. e. the intercooler was actually installed!).

Thought I'd throw this back up top, Getting ready to take it in for Paint. I've put bigger injectors, HX35/40, gov springs and had to put a cv joint in the rear to get some harmonics taken care of.

Excellent project. I do love the older vehicles. I did my voltage regulator the same way when i swapped the 24v motor in. The Suburban would be great to see in person. Let me know if you ever bring it on this side of the hill.
