Towing EGT's and speed

My trip to San Antonio, Texas

Ok we are in the market for a RV (not a MH) and are considering a 5th wwheel trailer. regular trailer or a camper? I am leaning towards a 5th wheel -only because they look easier to tow. Any ideas as to brand of trailer to look at and especially important- what brands to stay away from ? also - what brand of 5th wheel works best . looking at 25-30 ft as it's only the 2 of us and the dog - no kids !

Welcome to the RV arena:

Each Rv has it's advantages and disadvantages. You will just have to weigh the most important things you are looking for and compare them with the rig you are looking at.

Fivers are nice if you are going to be in one spot for a few days. They offer lots of room and comfort, but if you have a boat you like to take, you might want to look at the slide ins unless you are in a state where you can tow double. You can get a pretty nice fiver for what you will have to pay for a high end slide in.

As for pricing on fivers, it depends on the quality of the unit. You can get a fiver for anywhere from $15,000 to $100,000 depending on the manufacturer. When we were faced with the decision on what to buy, we visited campgrounds and talked to owners of different rigs and got the pro's and con's on each. We just sold our 35' fiver because we spend most of our time travelling around in our slide in and towing our boat.

We just got back from a two month trip to Alaska with the slide in and enjoyed it very much. Units with slide outs make for extra room and we can park just about anywhere. We will be taking another two month fishing trip to AZ in Feb. with the slide in and boat.

I would start out with a used unit to see how it goes. That way if it isn't to your liking you can get rid of it without taking a big hit off the cost of a new one.
