Hey Jessie one of our fellow KYDTR members (TDR also) was supposed to be installing one on his truck, but its also been down for twins. I'll see if I can get him to comment because he was told it was supposed to be better mannered than a 4K kit?!?

I think you are missing a shim or you have the springs a click or two to tight. Make sure you got the right amount of springs in there and didn't mix any up w/ the old ones. Not saying you did, but I have seen it happen before

More info would be great. I'm on a poor boys quest to build a strong running, mean sounding truck that is still fun and driveable on the streets.

It would be interesting to see how streetable these springs are. Meaning can you drive with the cruise control on without it being jumpy.

Im not sure on the price but I know he said it was cheaper than a 4k kit, so far it doesnt have very good street manners its very touchey but it will scream wide open.

Thanks Mark I would appreciate it we put a kit in my buddies 96 and we can get it to idle any less than 2500 rpm.

Then it dies when you put it in drive, correct?

Had the same issue with another set of 5K springs.

We actually got the idle down to about 1500RPM, still died with putting the truck in Drive. .

If you put it in gear from an idle and it dies, then it needs at least one more click on each... . that's not going to work with that RPM.

Signal, it's no that bad. Just a little touchy on the bottom and it ramps up quicker.

Can you just get the extra two springs to go from the 3k to 4k or do you have to buy the whole new kit? And does it affect daily driving economy?

My p-pump was doing the exact same thing as your two only I have a 4gsk in mine that I got from Piers when he was still at PDR and he modified and lighted my whole govenor essembly. He told me it would turn 5000+ without having the 5gsk characteristics... he was right but it took some playing with it to get the idle down!!!

When I first fired it up with the low idle screw in the stock location before the pump was built it was idling at aprox 2800rpm and the linkage was sticking and hanging up on it self trying. The linkage was trying to pull its self thru the center point instead of up and around like it did stock!

After talking to Van Haisley he told me that the 97-98's had an adjustable bracket that the linkage bolts to that would fix the problem. I couldn't get one in time so I just got out the tig and added 1" to the piece and now it pulls its self up and around instead of thru its self.

At this time the idle was still really high so I turned the idle screw all the way in... it was sitting at 1200rpm (still too high) so I removed it and fired it back up and it was at 500 and barley wanted to run! I took the idle screw and ground just under 1/8" off it and turned it right in... sure enough... it idles at 700!!!! perfect!

I havn't driven it a whole bunch yet because of other issues but it is pretty tuchey but not much worse than my brothers 4gks.

We tightened the springs up one click at a time for about 6-8 tries. Each time we'd put it in drive it would die.

Past a certain point we couldn't get the RPM down below 2000 RPM & didn't attempt placing the truck in gear, we screwed the idle adjustment down, but at a certain point it wouldn't idle.

Do we possibly need to adjust the bracket or grind the idle nut head?
