I suppose I'll just stick with a 4k kit for now. When I manage to get the truck up in power enough to be able to use a 5k kit then I'll buy one. When that time comes, then I'll turn heads cause I'll prob be the only 12v to show up to dyno:rolleyes:

I just put the Columbus Diesel 5 GSK in on a new motor and on the first start up it reved to 1800 (scared the poo out of me. ) so I just shut it down adjusted the idle to 800 and it purrs like a kitten. Will be taking it to the track next weekend to get a better judge of how these work. I was surprised when I opened the kit to see only 4 springs 2for each side and nothing else and you have to install the kit with out a base.

i had another thought,,, wouldn't 4000 and higher be almost pointless unless you were sled pulling

My thoughts exactly.

There is no need for these springs either at dyno events. The 12v motor will not pull efficently into that rpm range so they are wasted money. One will never use them on the street as you would never stop the truck. Also of note with most pulling sanctioning bodies having rpm limits set below these springs, why use them?..... Andy

Interesting. How do they check? Free rev it?

From the DHRA rulebook

The engine must be governed to a maximum of 4500 RPM, measured in the unloaded, free-rev

state. The burden of proof of legal RPM lies with the puller. The use of a verification method, such

as electronic recall tachometer, data logger or laser tachometer, is strongly recommended. A puller

who cannot provide such evidence upon request will forfeit winnings and is subject to proof of

RPM compliance before being allowed to participate in future sled pulls.
