I want to swap an auto in place of my NV4500. From what I can tell I need to swap the:

Trans (duh)

shift Linkage

dash cluster

Shifter collum

Computer?

Pedal assembly

P-Pump TPS assembly

Trans cooler

Does not seem like a huge job, just time consuming. im looking for a wrecked or cheap truck with mebbe a blown motor, or someone with a built trans looking to swap. I have a SBC DD 3600 sprung hub clutch thats a few months old. Any leads or tips on the swap (previous writeups, etc) appreciated.

Swap 5pd To Auto

You have a 95 so you have to think about the trans itself, In 96 we went to the RE trans, All depends on what trans you want to put in a RH or RE? The RH would be easyer because you don't really need a pcm or new wiring harness but with a RE you would have to find a 96 and newer rob everything from it. You also have to look at putting on the water tank on the passengers side of motor and the trans cooler on the front. New or reman driveshafts (is it 4x4?) Then you have to use that t-case or have your input hub changed out. You can get a ATS commander to control lock up and everything else. Need the streering colum its more work than you think it is. The easy one is auto to manual... ... But good luck and we got your back for help here.

thanks for the tips, I have found a donor truck I believe same configuration as mine but auto.

Ndurbin, you got the trans I want to do also:{

nope. Says with a bum knee it may bother him in traffic sometimes which is understandable. Though as you can see on the other forum, i have found a perfect donor beast. :)

I am another one who knees are wiped out and am going to swap in a slushbox very soon. Instead of worrying with all the steering column crap I am going to use one of the Turbo Action Cheetah shifters I have accumulated over the years. I have been doing the research on this swap for a while now. Let me know when you get it all gathered, maybe I could come up and give you a hand and see whats all involved in the swap... . Andy

If its a 4x4 you will have to change the input shaft on the trans case. I did going from a 6 speed to a 47 RH.

so right now I have the 241HD. In order to reuse that, instaed of the 241LD thats in my donor truck, I need to swap input shafts between the 2? Id like to keep the HD for obvious reasons, If thats it, I could handle that:)

Andy, This is going to be a week long process most likely, working a few hours a night after work til its done. Ill try to take pics of the process, and do a write up after its complete:cool:

Transfer case express can get you the right part. Few other thoughts. You need a kick down cable and to modify you throttle sensor. New mounting bracket for the trans, tube and dipstick, I went with a switch for 4th and lock up. Trans gauge and cooler. Lines and fitting. You don't NEED to change your pedals, I never did.

Take spacer out of starter, need shorter starter mounting bolts, etc.

Flex plate. Flex plate mounting bolts. Change drive shaft length (s). Rewire neutral safety switch and reverse lights.

I will be putting the manual setup back into the donor rig, then selling it off. So basically I will be trying to swap everything over 100% to have 2 functional trucks (Ihope:-laf) by the end of this. Thanks for the Tips:cool:

Man this really has me thinking!... ... ... ... Why ya gotta be in Connecticut... ... ... or maybe why do I have to be in KS! LOL

I feel a little late, been out of town. Check out my sig, I think I have the perfect truck to do the swap. Trans recently rebuilt with all the upgrades plus converter. 30,000 miles since rebuild. I also have the time to come and do the swap with you. Let me know if I am too late. Thanks. Cashin

I bought a x-cab LB 95 in horrible shape to say the least for $600 and in the last few days stripped out everything I need to pull off the swap. what a pile of parts!:-laf

OD buttons

Steering collum+Park/drive indicator out of inst. cluster

Brake pedal assy.

Eng Comp Wiring harness

PCM

P-pump bracket assy.

Frame mounted shifter linkages

Trans cooler (radiator)

Trans lines

Trans heat exchanger (block) and lines/manifold

transmission

Transfer case

associated nuts/bolts etc. .

May be done by the weekend!

Went out for first test ride tonight! nothing but :). . Only had the front driveshaft in because the rear is at the shop getting shortened. Im impatient and couldnt wait so I hit the road with it and seems to run flawless!

Its been a TON of work, esp. when your doing everything on your back but its like 99% done Oo.

Just need to patch the hole in the floor and install rear shaft then top off transfer case fluid again :-laf

PS Scott, I can SWEAR the doors on the 95's crew cab will fit your reg cab truck, I measured all ways I could against Pauls truck and the seem exactly the same! They have a few bumps and bruises but at least ya cant see the road through them when your going down the road:cool:
