5th Wheel - Rear vs Center Kitchen

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

McKenzie Medallion- Anyone have one?

EGT's w/ heavy towing & unmodified truck ?

What is the Mor/ryde suspension - is it anything like the rubber torsion axles? I had one 5th wh with rubber torsion axles and it was GREAT! The trailer hardly rocked when I pulled off the rv pad and over the curb/gutter. Even the leaf spring/equalizer setups with shocks don't come close to those. Craig

Rubber suspension/5th wheel

Yes, this is what it is. There are no springs to wear-out or worry about lub, ect; and they are so smooth riding; however, as RustyJC and I know, there is a limit to what anything and what it will do; and nothing completely asorbs all the holes in I-10, mile marker 1 thru 75, especially. There is one place, where at 55 mph, the truck and trailer became airborne:eek:  My wife also went into orbit.

If the dealer does not handle them, the factory will install them for you (MORyde) for about 600. 00 pere axle; dep;ending on the installation. Newmar did not want to put them on my particular model of trailer; so made a deal with MORYDE and told them you eathier do it or I'l just pull it down the road and let them make the money; so I wound up with Dexter tork-flex; a more heavy duty unit; not necessarily better, but for a much heavier unit:D

yOU CAN GO TO MOR/ryde OR Dexter Axle and get all the tech info. Also it is now $699. 00 pere axle, installed. Usually more from RV dealer; though sometimes less.

Go Center Kitchen!

I recommend center kitchen because we have a wooden plank floor in it and it doesn't track up like the center living room does. Also, the rear living rooms offer better home entertainment setups. Check out travel supreme.

I-10 where????????

GLASMITHS, where on I-10 are you talking about?

I plan on going tru I-10,to Phoenix from Ca in 2 weeks. If its that bad, I'll go I-40, drop down 95 to I-10 at the boarder.

Thanks for the help. Ed

Washboard Road (I-10)

Bugout:

The part in question is in Louisiana Mile marker 1thru75. Also in Texas the last 10 miles before you get into LA. The part in Texas is the expansion joints. From Orange to Vidor:mad:  We made a trip last week to Beaumont and it is just horrible.

Even coming back with 26 sheet of 3/4" plywood still rough.

Texas generally has excellent roads; however, whomever decided to put blacktop over concrete must be profoundly retarded:eek: They just covered up the basic problem, and it has come back to haunt them, and us

Currently have the rear kitchen. Next one will probably be center kitchen ... in favor of the rear lounge. The rear lounge has been on the radar screen for a few years now. I want that rear window, 2 recliners & the side windows. Out of the traffic with a view. :D

Rear Living Room

Forrest:

My advice on the recliners is to not take the RV type. Usually they aren't very large, and in most cases not real comfortable. We found some at a furniture store that was much larger, but not full size, as theywould not fit, and the two cost about what one:eek: from the factory. They are fake leather, the real leather ones would not fit. My 3c

We've been traveling and living in our 32' New Horizons rear kitchen 5'er for about 1 1/2 years and wouldn't have it any other way. We have not had a problem with the stuff flying around in the rear cabinets because we pack them to withstand the abuse that I give them by my driving.

I-10 to Phoenix

Bug Out,

I-10 Los Angeles to Phoenix es muy bueno. Travel it all the time. It's kinda nice when you hit the border. 70-75 if your comfortable,

Rick C:) :)

Have had both center and rear kitchens... . If the kitchen is not on a slide out, I would definetly have a rear kitchen. As far a dishes being bounced around, mine has shocks on all wheels and this has not been a problem... ;)

I have had both and like the rear kitchen set up the best, alot more useable space foot for foot.

Go down to your local camper dealer and choose two campers of the same size and quality and walk into each, walk to the middle and turn 360 degree and decide which one has more room in your opinion.

Ron

P. S. I am looking at a new Montana triple slide with center kitchen:rolleyes: I wish this model had one with rear kitchen, that would seal the deal.

Looks like I'm by myself here but for me the center is the way to go. My wife and I looked for almost 5 years. For floor plan and price we liked. The one I thought was best for us was $51,000. Not till we retire. Now I have seen the Teton that just blew me away. $68,000. I guess I could got an American Tradition and tow it with my Cummins. Gotta have my truck. I like the center kitchena lot. Access is limited with the slide in, but that takes about a minute or so. The only thing I know of that can stop the bouncing is air ride. Whether it be axles, hitch, or truck. O, by the way, we ended up with a Wanderer from Thor of Ca.

Good luck

. . Preston. .
