I was on patrol on the midnight shift last night, checking several of our local car dealerships. I try to check over all the lots that are not gated off. I noticed the Ford lot had recently gotten 4 new 6. 0 Super Dutys which were sitting together. After all the reading I had done I couldn't resist looking under them with the flashlight. :--) 2 of the 4 were leaking! One was just the initial "bellhousing stain" I've heard referred to. The other was a full on dripping leak.
I could hardly believe a vehicle listing for nearly 45k was sitting on the lot losing oil. The strange thing was that one of the clean ones had a blue dot (inspection paint maybe?) on the round circle cast into the bellhousing. I wondered if it was "a good one". I thought certainly that Ford would have rectified this by now. These were current production vehicles which were just delivered within the last two weeks.
Seeing this firsthand made me very thankful for TDR and Dieselstop. Without the information I got from them while I was comparison shopping, I might have been involved in a very sad situation right now. Thankfully, instead I am enjoying myself and my new truck. Thanks to all who post.
