In fact the first Cummins Common Rail 5. 9L was found in the IVECO and DAF trucks a couple years before they came out in the Dodge.

Further to Marco's observation, I happened upon some promotional material by FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies) in the Diesel Progress magazine which lists 5. 9 & 6. 7 L engines that are marketed by them, perhaps with some non-cummins exterior items.



The material also says that Fiat invented the common rail injection system with solenoid actuated injectors and turned it over to Robert Bosch for commercialization and manufacture.



Can anyone offer tech info comparing solenoid and piezo-electric activated injectors?
