Anybody have a hack for replacing the engine mounts in a 2007.5 6.7?
I've checked the sticky threads and run a word search, but came up empty.
I'm trying to replace the engine mounts on my 2007.5 6.7L. I'm attempting this in my drive way with nothing but a floor jack and a weak engine hoist.
Both mounts are unbolted. P/S mount is out, but I hurt the oil pan using it as a fulcrum point to wedge the engine over then beat the mount out.
The D/S is unbolted but doesn't want to move more than a few inches (vertically). I'm not having much luck moving the engine laterally to create room.
It can't be this hard?!?. Looking for some idea or proper method to remove the mounts then install w/o major damage.
Please yall, save me from my stupid self.

Not sure but atleast you might notice something special on it that could help with some ideas.

The weak engine hoist and where you are attaching it to the engine is likely causing your problem...NOT getting enough lift to relaese the weight of the engine from the mounts
 
Not sure if there is room, but you might be able to use a 2x4 on the pan rail with the floor jack to raise the DS of the engine up. You also might remove the transmission mount bolts or at least loosen them some to more easily raise one side of the engine. That is assuming the PS mount is back in but not completely tight so the engine does not move too far out of position.

Thanks, I'll try loosening the transmission mount and see if that provides more engine movement.
 
Shouldn't make a difference, as it didn't on mine, but yeah it was a 5.9.

I used an engine hoist like you have for this but changed one mount at a time, so lifting also tilted the engine slightly sideways.

Hoist was in the shortest possible arm length to have enough lifting capacity.
 
Followed Sag2's advice, loosened the transfercase mount bolts. That did the trick, gave me the little more travel I needed.
If anybody uses this thread in the future here's some items of interest:
1- If you can afford it, change both mounts.
2- Remove the D/S mount to provide swing room to remove the P/S.
3- Loosen the transfer case mounts to provide extra movement.
4- When raising the P/S of the engine watch out for the plastic elbow that is located between the rubber heater core hose coming from the firewall and the pipe that goes into the cylinder head. I raised the engine too much, the elbow smashed against the firewall, and I was baptized in antifreeze.
5- When the antifreeze drips into your mouth make sure your 12 year old son isn't there when you decide to tell the truck EXACTLY what you think of it. Then make sure your 2 chocolate labs aren't there to almost lick at the antifreeze. And as your quickly getting out from under the truck to shoo them off make sure not to slam your knee on the rocker panel steps, then make sure your son isn't there when you tell the rocker panel steps what you think of them.
