6.7 injectors better then 5.9?

I’m gearing up to buying another 3rd gen. I read on some forums that 6.7 injectors are better and don’t have the fail rate of the 5.9s. Just was curious if there was someone here with info regarding why if it’s filtering or the bodies are different and if it’s even true. Thanks everyone

Yes it’s true. Better manufacturing, better filtration, and design changes are why.

Current 5.9 injectors are very reliable too.

Correct, it was the factory installed Injectors in the first years of Commonrail that weren't stellar. Everything that was installed later down the road is okay.
Biggest problem was subpar fuel filters which killed the injectors and not manufacturing problems of them.

Unbelievable that the same myths are still passed around twenty years later.

I have seen numerous comments on the injectors and recs to use the BB1 I believe in a 2004.5 but are those the same as in the 6.7? I can't tell from this thread if the injectors are the same after 2004.5 for the Cummins. Or is this just a commentary on the filtration issue?

I figure I'm coming due on an injector change with 155K on the clock and beginning to have a starting issue after starting, moving the truck a short distance and shutting down. Few minutes later the engine acts as if it's slightly flooded and spins a bit before starting. Might be a leaking injector but does not do this once warmed up.

The 6.7’s use a different injector than the 5.9’s.

I'm going to stick with the originals for now. bc, As you know I'm in the middle of a A/C/heater plenum rebuild. My heater core and hoses just shipped today so with everything apart I began looking for other issues. My anti freeze is 6 years old but with only 20K miles on it. I bought a coolant test kit after seeing Moses Ludels article in TDR 119. Tested mine today and came up with readings that show the PH test is 7.0. The other readings are good. Directions say new stuff will have a Ph of 8 to 9.5 and that results 11 or 6.5 should be corrected. If I could recycle the stuff I would change it. Live in a rural mountain area with no way to get rid of it in the county. I will post results in a separate reading but what I have might be okay to use for awhile.

Then I checked the batteries which have been sitting for a week and both are 12.2 and over 4 years old. I would like to see 12.5. I'm tempted to replace them since I can make one 80 mile trip to do that instead of buying a pair and then make another trip to return the cores. They are Costco Interstate and would last a little longer but just how long. Starting to corrode on the positive posts which tells me there is some resistance going on.

WIX Filtration Products. Found it at Oreillys. 50 test strips in a bottle that has a color gauge on the side and a paper instruction sheet. Kinda expensive but I get a discount on some items. $41 discounted to $28.

BTW these have an expiration date and from what I read they are not good for long life coolants. Basically just our HOAT. Some reviews say they are good for one year. I did not notice the exp date until I got home and mine are due to expire but worked. Unless you have a shop using 50 strips in a year would not be likely.

Yes. But....I'm returning the bottle due to the exp. date. I just ordered the Fleetguard equivalent because I can get the strips in a four pack and not have 45-50 laying around going bad before I can use them. They were about $17 and free shipping since we have the Amazon Prime.

Same with mine- 2004.5 original injectors lasted 267k. My 2008 6.7 injectors starting to have issues at 163k.

That's the exact point, referring to the back then installed injectors that is true. If I comes to NEW Bosch Injectors made in 202x for the 5.9 it isn't correct as these Injectors today have nothing in common with the onceback then except the application.
