Got truck back fri. , with the #6 plate and 3000GSK installed. I am suitably impressed. Towed my S-10 pickup home from there and next day took a 350m trip (empty), I can say for sure. . wow. .
The torque from about 1100 rpm on up to ? 2600? is very much improved and it will spool up to 3000 no problem. It's not noisy, (In fact since I had just gotten the valve adj 2 days prior, if anything, it's quieter), and very little smoke. I told my shop guy that I didn't want smoke. (I know some of you guys are snickering in the back there). . So he said that he has 'tuned it back' a bit. I assume he means adjusted the plate back just a tad to keep the smoke down. He said he could make it faster if I didn't mind a 'little' smoke. .
Heck. . what's a little smoke? (Uh Oh. . I think I caught it!!). . Anyway. . I was expecting a good increase in power, but wasn't sure how well the 3000 GSK would actually help. . Oh Yeah. . makes a WORLD of difference. Just what I was looking for.
I must say that I had been leaning toward 'starting' with a #10 because of all my reading here and terms like 'forgiving' and 'mild' and 'good fuel curve', because I really don't need more noise and smoke, but letting them talk me into the #6, I'm not the least bit sorry. . In fact, I think I may have been disappointed with the #10. . (Hmmm. wonder what a #5 is like?). . (Uh. . Oh. . there it goes again)(and there goes my wallet. . ).
The shop guy said they have some 'mild' performance injectors (w/ 6 holes), but that they would make more smoke, but I'm thinking that a little more air, first, might be in order. . OK so WHAT'S NEXT ??
HX 35/40 ?? I really don't want to lose much accel with too large a turbo. . (I drive mostly empty), How about a boost elbow? and maybe one of those 'Big Head' turbo controllers? I DO plan to buy an ATS 3 piece ex man (and drill for the pre-turbo pyro), and I'd also like to buy a new turbo at the same time , but That might be 6 months. . perhaps some milder first step? Keep the advice coming and Thanks. . I'm a happy camper. . John G Oo.
