Anyone have 6 spd transmission trouble yet? Mine was replaced at 29K. Nothing serious, just would not stay in rev. , would come out of gear while backing up. Brg. was out of rev. gear. Good news was, no parts available for the 6 spd. from DC. Remove & replace only. Parts man said diff. part # on new transmission. Had new transmission & going by noon the next day!!

yogibear,haven't had any problems so far with the 6-speed manual,of course,I don't have as many miles on mine like you do 3000 mi. so far, hope yours is the exception and not the norm.

I have a 6 speed trans. on my 2000 3500 4x4
it has 1300 miles on it every time i try to shift from 2nd to 3rd the gears dont mesh very well thay kinda grind a little befor thay slide in. I havent taken it in to the dealer yet but when i go for my first oil change i will have them check it out

I only have 2,000 miles on my Ram, but no problems yet. I'd like to see it stay that way, too. It's good you were able to get yours fixed without any hassle.

My 99' 6-speed has 14,000 racked up and so far no problems. Are the 99' 6-speeds different than the 2000's ? I waited 5 months to get my 6-speed in 99'. apparently they didn't make too many. I would hate to look forward to possible problems in the future. thanks.....

I have a 6-speed in an early '00 4x4 that is having the same gear 'clash' on the 2-3 shift, and occasionally noticed on the 1-2 shift, when shifting between 1400 & 1800 rpm.

I called the tech at NV and was told that this is NOT a normal characteristic of the NV5600, and maybe there was a problem. He said that if it was a trans problem, it would most likely get worse, but wasn't something that would leave you stranded on the side of the road.

The tech further stated that I needed to make sure the clutch was depressed fully at the shift. After making sure the clutch was all the way in (like to the FLOOR!), I have noticed the gear clash isn't there. It returns when doing what feels to me like a normal shift w/ the clutch in ~ 3/4 - 7/8, but not on the floor. Wonder if it's in the clutch linkage, but I understand these things aren't adjustable. Strange it wouldn't do it in any of the other gears.

Any comments?

My Y2K 3500 had minor gear clash on the 2nd to 3rd shift, but it's gone now with 4000 miles on it. However, my 6 speed has always been really stiff shifting. If I pull the stick into the 1-2 gate or push it into the 5-6 gate and let go, it will stay there, not springing back into the 3-4 gate like it should. It's really hard to get around the pattern with it like that. The other 6 speeds that I have seen and driven are nice and smooth through the gates. My dealer is stymied, at least he's trying. Does me no good though. I know 3 other guys with six speeds and they have had the clash into 3rd also, and it cleared up like mine did with a little milage on the trans, yours should too. The lube is different on the NV5600, instead of the 75-90 theres no wt. called out on the mopar bottle, just an MS-9224. The Tech people at Amsoil told me it was the same as their new 3K series 5W30. Thats what I put in my new transmission 6000 miles ago and its working great!!

11,000+ Miles on my '99 6_Speed and no problems so far. Smooth as silk thru all the gears. Reverse is a little tough to get into but that's okay!

You guys with the gear clash,I'm sure yours will go away with mileage. Mine used to do it all the time with low RPM shifts(below 2100),but now with 6600mi it's almost completely gone. If/when it does do it now, it's very faint.

I took my 2000 in for its first oil change today and mentioned that 4th gear was hard to get out of at times. If it is in 4th when you stop, it is nearly impossible to get it into any gear. You have to take off in 4th gear. Once you are moving, it shifts fine.

The diesel mechanic drove it and told me they were going to replace it. They called me back this afternoon and told me they already have a new transmission on the way and will put it in on Tuesday.

Went to the dealers Thursday to get fed more BS about them not knowing anything yet on the 02' models and they (in service ) were just finishing up putting a new transmission in (6 speed) truck had 400 miles on it. Didn't get a chance to ask mech. what happened but will ask him next week.

JJY2K & Pete, I just got back from trip to Colfax Ca. My trucks got 43K on it now and everythings fine, thats 14K since new transmission was installed. The more miles the better it runs!!!!

I did take my truck in to the dealer Tuesday morning. The new 6 speed transmission was waiting. This afternoon (Wednesday) they called and said it was ready. I picked it up and the new transmission is very smooth. No trouble shifting out of 4th gear at all!

I know a lot of people say they have trouble with their dealers. I am very pleased with how I have been treated at the John Elway Dodge SouthWest dealership. The diesel mechanics have been very informative and helpful. An important issue with me is that they have done everything they said they would do - they have kept their word.

I've got nearly 42,000 miles on my 6 speed and have not experienced any problems. My 2000 model truck was made in August of 1999.

I'm getting ready to change the gear oil for the first time. Anyone know what the allen bolt size is?

I have 10 K on my 2001. 5 and no troubles with the trans. At least not yet anyways.
Only trouble I had with my truck is the Cruise Control stopped working and the dealer replaced a speed sensor. That is all so far.
