This has probably been beat to death, first of i applogize for that. Anyways i would like to know what all has to happen to put the 5600 in place of the 4500 in a 98 4x4 12v. ? also where is the best place to get the 5600? as well as do you have to modify the 5600 to handle higher hp? besides a clutch. i appreciate the answers that are sure to come. thank you.

I put an 02 6spd in my 96 4x4. It had a 5spd.

I needed to change the crossmember, but you will not have to. The 98 and up has a crossmember that is fatter in the centre and is good for auto. 5spd. and 6spd. My 4x4 shifter was attatched to the NV4500. The 5600 has no mounting for the 4x4 shifter so I had to modify the floorboards to bolt the shifter leaver to the floorboards. I think you have the new centre console with the shifter bolted to the floorboards already, so you won't need to change anything.

-You will need a new flywheel(if you buy the newer 1 3/8" input 6spd. )

-Bellhousing

-Cutch

-1/2" thick spacer that goes between the starter and the adapter plate for the bellhousing.

- lengthen the wire to the speedo. pickup on the back of the transmission

-lengthen the front driveshaft exactly 6"

-shorten the rear driveshaft exactly 6"

-lengthen rod from the T-case lever to the T-case 6"

The transfer case is interchangable between the 5 and 6spds (it is NOT compatible with the auto transfercases)

Everything else will fit fine. It will be a very easy conversion with your 98. If you go to a wrecker you can buy all or trade all the parts + cash. It should take you about 6 hrs to re and re ,not including the time to get your flywheel turned and have your driveshafts done.

If you get the 01 and up 5600 with the 1/38" input shaft you will have a pretty bullet proof trans. shat can handle a lot more more power than the 5spds. It is HUGE at 380# instead of 200#

I traded a wrecker my broken 5 spd. + $2500 for a 2002 with 12,000 miles on it. He included all the parts that I needed. I just had to pay the driveshaft shop $200 to do the driveshafts.

Call Don at Blumenthal.

Just remind him to send you the right bolts and adaptors for the install, as well as a transmission that does not grind second gear as soon as you open it out of the crate, and install it for the first time. Other than that, great people to do biz with.

Okay, I am confused. Why do you need a 1/2 thick spacer between the starter and adapter. I just talked to Blumenthal's and they said I didn't need one. I just got my kit it included a new stick, ball, tc linkage, reverse extension, flywheel and clutch. It going on a 98 4x4. I am taking out the nv4500. If you have done the install please reply.

Scramblin,

The 12 1/4" flywheel has the splines on the outside of the flywheel for the starter to engage with. The 13" flywheel does not move the splines further to the outside to compensate for the extra 3/4" diameter. Rather the 13" flywheel has the slines on the same spot on the engine side of the flywheel, but the smooth suface of the flywheel overlaps the splines. ( When you look at the flywheel from the clutch side you can not see the splines sticking out). When you turn on the starter, the bendix will go past the splines a bit and hit the flywheel. When I installed the 13" flywheel and tightened the flywheel bolts, I could not turn the motor over by hand because the flywheel was binding with the starter bendix.

I hope my explanation makes sense.

Garry.

What's involved in drilling the 5spd. flywheel, just open up the center bore? I stand at a Bridgeport all day, so that ain't no thang for me to do.

Blumenthals uses our 13" conversion flywheel and does not require the starter space. It is the 5sp flywheel re-drilled.

Peter,

Does clutch that I got from Bluimenthanls have a particular application? Or is it a custom application?

Thanks.

Blumenthals orders our CON O series of clutch which is rated to 350hp. It is simply the ETH clutch built up. You are not stuck with our clutch in the future, all you will need to do is order a clutch for a 2001 ETH HO 6sp and it will bolt right up. They also order our other series of clutches if needed to match the hp of the vehicle... CON OFE and CON FE.

Common Peter. I didn't mean it that way. :( I just want to know what I have.

I did not take it that way. Sorry if it sounded like that, dang computer. It was meant in general, (to whom it may concern for future reference). It is nice to know that because you made a change does not mean you are stuck with one company. I do not and will not build my clutches that way.
