Motor manual for dummies needed

FSM- Factory Service Manual.. where can i get one?

I installed a BD Short shifter on my 2001 2500.

This kit shortens the throw by about 50%. I used to hit my hand on my cup smoothy, now it is at least two inches away. It makes the transmission feel like your driving a sports car. There is significant reduction in driver fatigue. I had several members out at the get together today jump in and try it out. They were all :D . Install is easy with normal hand tools. Those who race will easily lower your times.

If there is enough people I will try and get a group discount. Sam

How much $$ are they normally? I have some long arms, so I don't mind the long shift throw, but I am always in the market to improve. At least I dont break the knee caps of the middle passenger when I drop into reverse like my old '82 150.

I made my own kit a year ago, I cut like 3" off the top of the shaft , it is hollow and I had to machine a core insert and locktight it in there, works good and I added the eaton/Fuller knob too.

cheers, Kevin

I have an Eaton Fuller knob, used it for probably 2 or 3 months then got tired off it because it extended my shifter SOO much.

Whitmore I wish you lived close by I'd get you to do my shifter where I could switch back to my EF. :(

I tried that shifter out on DAWG-1 truck today. It is so sweet. Shifts are short and solid. :D I need to work some over time to get this one.

Got Smoke, its not to hard at all, cut the shaft where you want it and then get a 3/8" bolt about 2" long, file the head of the bolt bown so it barley fits in the shaft tube, put a nut on the end and hammer it in till 3/4" sticks out and then fill the tube up with epoxy.

Thats all I did except I used a lathe to turn the bolt down... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . You can do it buddie :)

cheers, Kevin

I have been looking for one of these since I got our truck in June 2001. I need this, lets get a group deal. The price was a little high as I remember.

This unit shortens the through of the shifter, not necessarily shorting the actual stick shift. I hear a lot of confusion in this matter.

If I understand right, it's just a shortened shifter.

I chopped about 5 or 6 inches off the stick in my old truck and really liked it. I did it so a baby seat would fit in the middle seat w/o interference. It was pretty simple to do, I cut it off, and welded the stud back on top of it. It worked out nicely because the knob screwed down over the weld. (but I changed all that when I put the lighted rocker switch in the hole where the shift pattern was for the exhaust brake)

I've thought about modifying the new one, but can't decide how much to take off. (also a lot of more important things to do)

There seems to be a misunderstanding. This shifter kit does not shorten the heighth of the shift rod. The kit does shorten the throw (forward and back movement) of the shift. It also tightens up the transmission shifts. Sorry for any confusion. Sam
