I've been watching this issue on the D1 status thread, but didn't think it affected me because mine has already been shipped, and delivered to the rail yard in Denver. I just talked to the dealer and they told me that the hold is for all 600's, even if shipped. They are trying to get mine released as I type. I would appreciate any information anyone has on this issue because it affects my travel plans to Denver to pick up the pickup.

600 Hold

Ken, don't know much either but I was told today by DC that mine, built on the 12th, in JS on the 13th is on 'Quality Hold'. No release date nor any other information. :(

I got a call from my dealer last night about this. My truck is sitting 150 miles from the dealer where the train droped it off on hold due to the clamp. I was planning to airlineing to pick it up this weekend in St. Louis. Dealer said he would keep me updated. If I find somthing out I will post ASAP!

I called DC customer support today and asked about my truck and the exhaust clamp hold. They indicated that there was not a hold on my truck and it would be completed 2/3/04 estimated and ship out shortly there after with arrival at the dealer in about 2 to 3 weeks. I specifically questioned her again about the hold. She checked with a supervisor and got back to me. She stated again that on "my truck" there is not a hold and it is on schedule. Does this mean that the issue is corrected on all trucks produced now? She would not elaborate on the "hold issue" but in our discussions she implied that my order is moving forward as scheduled? Is their anyone out there with connections so we can at least define which trucks are affected?

600 Hold

It does seem reasonable that if there is an identified problem that has now been resolved, then production could resume with the new process in place. From that point of view, only those that were produced before the problem was identified/resolved would be in some state of hold pending the correction. My concern is, given this argument, when/where is my exhaust clamp going to be tightened, replaced or whatever

But as was stated before, better to be fixed before shipped than a massive recall.

Waiting impatiently in PA,

George

My truck was completed and ready to ship on January 9th and then got a hold placed on shipment. I contacted a friend of mine on Monday and he checked with the factory. That is when we found out about the exhaust clamp. At that time, it was assumed that mine would ship by this Friday. I called Chrysler this morning and did not get any new information. I will call my friend to see if he will look into this further. If I get any new information, I will post it.

I checked today, my truck is on a rail car in Texas, got UPRR car number etc. Both dealer and DC said there was no hold on it, I specifically asked the DC rep, and he said if there were any problems with mine his report would have indicated that. I find it hard to believe they would pull a truck off the train and hold it!!!

If there was a specific reason they sure would. None of this is making any sense. We will soon find out what is going on.

Mine wasn't pulled off the train, but it is on hold at the destination RR yard. Still waiting to hear back from the dealer. They did indicate that Dodge felt it was a safety issue. It may be that it's cheaper for Dodge to pay the dealer to fix it when they prep the vehicle than to have a warranty claim after delivery. In any case, I am patiently waiting, ... as I walk to work.

Just received a call from person very close to Chrysler. There is an issue with a exhaust clamp on ALL new 600s. New clamps are in route to factory. It is still unclear if it was a supply problem or a problem with the clamp itself. I was also just told that we are not the only ones a little upset over the clamp problem. I was also told if there is an update, it would come tomorrow. I will pass along anything I hear.

Not trying to rub salt in the wound, so to speak, but this is one of the reasons I prefer to buy a truck off a lot. I don't have as much patience as some of you guys. Hope you get your trucks soon.

Dave

Thanks for the update LHarper. It would make sense that my truck would not have a hold if DC knows the new parts will be here by x date with my truck not even into the build stage yet. This sure is not a good start for the "600".

Just for "RBollinger", I should have added a bit of "sarcasim" to the last sentence as this could easily be a supply issue. Even if it is product issue a clamp is a minor item.

For the fun of it, right after I got off the phone with my friend, I called Chrysler to check on my truck, even though I had called this morning. Was told the hold had been taken off. Not so sure that is the case. I do think this is common when new products are introduced.

C'mon people, it's just an exhaust clamp... at least the crankcase isn't filling with diesel or a major internal part that's bad. To call it a bad start for the 600 is foolish. My truck is in BG status for the clamp too, big deal. They'll get new clamp's and everyone will live happily ever after.

I did not intend on knocking the truck as I am extremely excited to be getting one. Like you can see I edited my post as I meant it as a tongue in cheek comment. I have zero concerns about the quality of the truck.

Please oh please forgive me for my comment, TDR members. As a newbie I don't want to get banished already!!!!!!!!!!!
