How long did your STOCK turbo last with TST/EDGE setup?

Here's a cut-n-paste of the window sticker from an '05 showing 610 lb/ft torque rating. But I see a lot of '05 stickers still stating 600 lb/ft.



Must have been a rolling change (when they switched to the thicker pencil on the Dyno chart). ;)



The one below is within a few days to a week of arriving at the dealership. When it gets here, it's mine. :D

Gotta love how Cummins just keeps getting more and more grunt out of the same basic block after 16 years.



1989: 160 hp/400 lb-ft

2005: 325 hp/610 lb-ft



representing a 103% increase in horsepower and 52. 5% increase in torque from the same 5. 9 liters of displacement. Meanwhile Ford (6. 9, 7. 3, 6. 0) and GM (6. 2, 6. 5, 6. 6) are on their third diesel engines. Dodhe was last to the diesel game, but they chose wisely. Looking forward to my 610!

dont let your head swell to much kc! the power on both the 5. 9,7. 3 engines has been there for several years. a 230hp 5. 9 in a ford 650 had 605 ftlbs of torque, that was back in 96, a 250hp 7. 3 in a international chassis,had 650 lbs of torque,that rateing goes back to at least 99, both figures come out of operators manuals ,that came with trucks that i have owned...
 
It's pretty safe to say that most manufacturers have detuned the crap out of their diesel engines to save trannies. You couldn't fit most trannies from a 650 series truck in a 3/4 ton.

I'm not saying the B5. 9 was never capable of what we're getting now as an OEM rating. Plus, the engines used in the mediums like the F750 have a much lower redline (relatively speaking), so the hp won't get as high as it will in the Dodge application. It's more about marketing. For the last half a dozen years at least, Dodge has sold ~100K Cummins-powered trucks a year. The majority of those engines are stock. If you bought one of the early HOs (245/505), the new engine doesn't sound as much of an improvement as it does to me with my 180/420 12-valve. No one with a 305/555 should be too interested in the 325/610. But the "numbers" aren't for the person who just bought a Cummins Ram in the last few years, they're for the owners like me who held on for a long time with a fairly stock truck and need that last nudge to go get a new one.
 
not true. most drivers want the biggest and badest of trucks. i do. we all know the cummins has been under powered for a long time. most of us do not want to hear it but if dodge had allison they would have it all, right?

Oh, and I don't want an Allison, I'll keep my NV-5600 thank you very much. :D

knew i would chap someone. point is, that everytime it gets bigger WE druel.
 
Well I for one wish my Cummins had an Allison behind it. That would save me about $5,000 dollars to make mine act like an Allison so I can use all of the power the Cummins has to offer.
 
The HIGH torque rating in the Ford 650 with 5. 9 might some of it come from a FLYWHEEL that looked more then TWICE the size of one in a DODGE truck. Part of the H. O. verus the standard output was a HEAVIER flywheel.

Exactly! If the auto and manual transmissions were the same price, or even if they PAID me to take the auto, I would still do whatever it took to get a manual. I still love the old NVG4500 best, but am quite fond of the NVG5600 too. Because of our Cummins engines, we always have the "baddest" trucks around!

ive got a cummins with a real allision behind it,now all i gotta do is yank that woreout 454 out of one of my old chevys,and figure out a way to shoe it in there. .

what? what does the size of the flywheel have to do with the output of the motor? Flywheels only store energy, they don't create it.

Mrs. Robinson, that's because you have never driven a truck with an Allison. reading the brochure doesn't count. . 4th and 5th don't slip in the Allison. . where do you get your information from? cereal boxes?
 
500 h. p. and forget it. Another interesting statement and that may be true. But a few years ago conversations I had with a Northern performance shop that handled Dodge,Ford,Chevy said one of the major issues with the D/max with Allision was not much more H. P. then stock and pulling a load they went into limp in mode. Was not safe in their mind. Said that when this happened would all of a sudden stop pulling and you had to get to the side of the road asap and cycle the key to get going again. Said on a steep incline at 65 mph towing 10k this was out right dangerous. Not stock trucks but chipped etc. what ever became of that issue?
