67 cummins jeep questions

I have a few questions about my 91 5. 9/getrag/205. I pulled this out of a 91 w350 truck that was beat up. Its new home is going to be a 67 m715 jeep. I hear a lot of talk about "computers" and I wonder if I will need one in mine? I was also wndering about the cable coming off the alt and what its purose is? On my timing cover, on of the bolts that hold it on down by the crank pulley has a wierd washer on it that ,I think, has interfered with the belt in the past. Any idea on why this is here. Thanks in advance. I figured the title would get your curiosity.

is your '91 engine intercooled or not?. . no computer needed to run . . in fact i normally take out the fuel shut off solinoid and gutt it. . then attach a cable shut off to the pump. . solves and rubber shut off from chunking the tip and falling into the pump... the later 91. 5-93 trucks had a small computer that was used to make the gauges work and alternator charge. . there are write ups to convert the alternator to a regular voltage regulator. . my '89 dodge had mechanical speedo guages and voltage regulator . . my '92 has that weird small computer... . either way the engine itself is mechanical so it will run with out out any computer... post some pictures of your jeep. .

I'm not sure what "cable" you are referring to on the alternator. The battery positive cable the feeds the alternator?

The fat washer is supposed to help keep the belt in there. Whether it actually helps or not, I don't know. I know most trucks and construction equipment has it.

This cable is like a #6 cable like a small car battery cable coming off the alt.

are you sure its not the normal cable from alternator to the battery?...

That sounds like a great project. How about posting some pics as you do it?

The alt has a small box in it that has a cable that goes to ground and then back out of box 4 or 5 feet where I cut it and got rid of donor truck before I could track it down.

The box is just a holder. It holds all the wires so they don't move. Pretty sure the long one is the positive that goes to the battery. I can't remember how long the ground is and it's raining like Noah's going rafting tomorrow. I'll try to remember to take a look tomorrow for ya.

There are two large wires. On the opposite end from where the wires go into the block is the ground stud. On mine that wire goes to the front of the head just past the thermostat housing. The other large wire is the positive from the battery. It's on the bottom as you look at the back of the alternator. On the other end it has it's own plug about 6-8 inches down from the positive post.
