The transmission in my truck has had shifting problems when towing. Most dealerships I talked to about it just gave me a blank look or told me there were no problems with this transmission. Last summer one dealership checked it out, did some updates, reprogrammed and relearned it. This helped some but still was not right. Last week it started new shift problems while not towing. Since I was travelling I went to a dealer where they ran a scan and said the transmission had to come out. I was told a seal had blown and a couple of clutches were burned. They installed a complete rebuild kit and new torque converter. I have been towing for 2 days now. This transmission has never worked like this before. I can actually notice the torque converter locking and downhill braking is much stronger. I have also noticed a lot less launch shudder. One question I have is does this transmission have a relearning period that it goes through as once in a while there is a different shift happening.

All of the electronic transmission have an adaptive memory where it learns the clutch apply times and your driving habits. It usually takes a few hundred miles or more for it to learn depending on your driving. There is also a "quick learn" the dealer can do with the scan tool that sets everything to a baseline.

Coppied directly from the 2016 Diesel Supplement Manual...

"The electronically-controlled transmission provides a precise shift schedule. The transmission electronics are self-calibrating; therefore, the first few shifts on a new vehicle may be somewhat abrupt. This is a normal condition, and precision shifts will develop within a few hundred miles (kilometers). "
