Just curious if the 6bt uses the same performance upgrades as the 5. 9 12v in the trucks. The one I'm looking at has a P pump, I think it's the 190 horse. Any info would be GREAT! thanks in advance.

The 190 HP found in mdt's has a much higher torque output than any in ours. Lower rpm as I recall also.

They are not allowed the 3300 RPM redline that the pick-ups have. Closer to 2300 as I recall...

I just about had a stroke with my first CTD when I saw it go over 3000 RPM...

Mike.

My Dad took alfalfa from Bend to Eugene with his. He was always bragging about how that thing pulled grades loaded

Thanks for the replys! It's out of a 96 78 pass. bus. Forgive the ignorance, but what other info do i need? I haven't done many mods on diesels... mainly gas engines. I just wanted 2 try some thing different. So, I could probably change the governor spring to get the RPM's up... ? Will an aftermarket plate work, or are the 6BT's different?

Thanks for the link. good to know. As far as what it's going in... I have a 65 dodge short bed 2wd. like i said, something different. If the 6bt and the 5. 9 truck engine are an easy interchange, I could put the 6bt in my 94 4x4 and put the 5. 9 in the shortbox. It seems like the 5. 9 is better suited for street modifications. Has anyone swapped in a 6bt?

I would think that the ip is only real difference... i believe that there is an excursion in the cummins swap section that used same motor you have... (possibly turbo different also) Exciting that you are putting it in a 65... I am doing one also, going to use 93 frame and shorten it and tub it(is stepside) using 97 motor with II pump and auto from suncoast... not exactly sure what turbo though... . keep me posted in progress if you would...

The pump and injectors are different,I would be surprised if the cam and pistons are the same. Cummins changes Many parts with different cpls

Well, I got some more info. it's the 240 horse motor. LNaugle, that sounds like a cool set up. Mine will be in progress 4 a while... buildin a house in my"spare" time:). I have a NV4500 l'd like to put behind it... I just need the fly wheel and bell housing. I have 74 front end already under mine, so the engine should bolt up 2 the frame at least. I have a buddy with a cummins 727 that would make the whole thing a bolt in, but with the diesel turning lower RPM's than a gas set up, I need all the gear spread i can get, so l probably won't go the 727 route. Are you gonna set the body on the 93 frame or splice frames?

Thx again for the info guys!

The same mods apply, since it is just going into a pick-up egts wont be so critical. In the motorhomes and heavier trucks modifications have to be much more carefully chosen to avoid melt down

That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks Bob. I figure I can get away with a lot since the truck is so light. The motor might as well be on a skate board:)

I am going to use the whole 93 frame and make body fit... . hopefully. get the cpl off your motor and then you can determine what parts are different... compare with your 94...

Good thinkin. Will yours be a 4x4 or 2 wheel drive? One other question, what plate should I put in the pump? The truck will never tow, it just needs to go fast:)

I am going 2wd... . boxing the frame to the back of the cab and then cuttin it off and tubbin and cagin it... . I also im not sure when i am going to do it... have motor and trans and truck so far... also have 68 road runner i am neglecting by letting it sit in the garage, has 4. 88s(from my drag racing days) in the factory dana 60 rear and just need to get it down to the shop and put some higher gears in it so i can drive it again..... (havent drove it since like 93)(ran 11. 70s back in the day) Projects... ... . !

Nice! A 440 in runner? Right now the 65 has a 383 is snagged from a 69 runner, I just freshened it up and ran it. I was the 1st to open it up, and it looked good in there considering age and miles:).
