727 No Foward Gears....

727 No Foward Gears.... Nobody has any suggestions..

On my way to tow one of my work trucks back to the shop and I heard a loud bang. Pulled over to the side, no visual damage. Put it in gear (nothing) tried reverse (worked fine). tried to drive back to the shop in reverse but the local fuz didn't like that. I had to walk a mile to the shop. They would not even give me a ride.

Any way anyone have any ideas as to what went wrong. Or maybe suggest some transmission options. I would love a 5spd manual.

Better pull it out. I think it lost a a planetary. You have reverse. It doesn't use the planetary.



Does forward work in manual 1st?

i agree, most likely a plenetary or cracked a drum, just pray the roller clutch in the back of the case didnt blow and crack the case(seen it 3 times). does it make any noise in gear? if you need parts let me know, i just took 2 junk ones and made 1 good one so i have some spare parts.

Thats why I asked if he had manual first. It doesn't use the overrunning clutch.

Thanks for the info guys. No, I dont have 1st either. It was a load bang, and it was under a light load. I was just driving down the road and BANG! I would love to swap to a non lockup 518. However, the 727 can be built pretty tough. I will pull it out tonight and tear it down. Thanks again guys.

I can help you, pm if interested. I have swapped to a 5 spd getrag recently and can help with that, and also I have a perfectly good working 727 sitting out of the truck. . oops noticed u have a 4x4... nm
