Too many gears?

ok well ..... still working on the rust problems ..... i got a bunch more pics ... . but you all have got to be tired of seeing all of them ... ...

anyway taking alittle bit of a break from the rust repair soon ..... got to do something else its starting to be work and not fun ... ...

so back to the frame work well at least gather some parts to start on the chassis again ... ... i need to start designing the fuel system and the brake system so that as i am boxing the frame i can weld in any brackets i might need .....

lets start with the fuel, i need some help from some one that might have a early first generation ram that is fuel injected ..... i have been told the fuel injected rams and ram chargers use the same thread pattern on the top of the plastic tank that holds the sending unit down as the diesel tanks do to hold there sending units in ... ... . is it true?

also what should i use for lines ... . i have got the old lines from the 92 diesel ... . but they are old brittle and seem to be very small ... ... what should i use ... . and where do i get fittings to hook to the sending unit and then the pumps .....

brake system ..... i plan to use the dana 60 70 combo that i have got, i need to replace 100% of the brake lines the 60 did not have any on it and the 70s are trash ... . i just won a hydroboost setup off ebay that will replace the old master cylinder and booster..... i know almost nothing about designing a brake system ... . any and all tech on that subject is welcome ... ...

i think thats enough questions for one post ..... i am hoping i get a few responces on this.

I have a 91 Ramcharger tank in my shop. The module hold down ring is the same, but the tank depth is a bit shorter than a diesel tank. I have collapsed the diesel sender and put it in the RC tank, but haven't tried it out yet. When you remove the sender, you can see the slides that allow the sender to collapse to fit different tanks.

well got alittle bit done since i have updated this ... ...

got the whole floor replaced from the bed section foward ... . custom made just about every pannel including the huge crossmember/body support that runs along the back of the seat area

i did not get any more pics before we finished cleaning it up and painting all the supports that i cant get to later ..... i dont know how i forgot that

and now the money shots ... ... .

this is just mock up b/c i have got to figure out a transmission cross-member, where the exhaust goes where the starter will sit ... the steering stuff ... basically anything that will effect me boxing the frame i have got to have in place and figured out so i don't screw myself later

but it fits :)

the 92 box and shaft from a 2 wheel drive will hook up to a column from a 79

#ad

IT FITS ... ...

#ad

hopefully the air box from the 79 will fit with the down pipe

#ad

anyway what do you guys think ?

I think it's lookin good. I can't wait til I get some time to start working on mine again... I'm still in the tear down process. But I do have a rust free body so that's a head start. I think I'm going to just shorten the 93 frame from the donor truck I have and set the ramcharger body on that. If my measurements are correct all the mounts will line up right if I take the extra length out of the frame right behind the cab. Then it's just a few simple things like a fuel tank to figure out. Some warm weather would help me out too... . If it's going to be cold here it could at least snow... either that or warm up to 70.

well i just ordered all my steering stuff for the axle, my t-case rebuild stuff and my twin stick shifters. i am going to order a bunch of stuff from summit next week probably ..... so i am gathering parts again ... .....

its a lift kit for a cummins so i think it will be fine

thanks for the link to your project on rcc ..... i have been reading your buildup as well as sams macho for about 4 hours now ... ...

well had to do a little cutting to make it fit #ad

the new shifter hole, with the trans tunnel now filled

#ad

stans 4 inch down pipe

#ad

trans mounted

#ad

case hung

#ad

the grill fits on the 92 core support with the intercooler, and the a/c condenser ... ..... i am only going to have to trim just a little bit

#ad

and this is what it looks like out of the garage

#ad

whats everyone think

i have been busy working on the truck ..... 100 percent of the rust is gone on the floors of the truck, the steering is in the twin stick shifters are in the works, exhaust is half done, front fenders hood and grill are all mocked up in place

as soon as i get my compressor fixed i am going to blow the truck apart and start boxing the frame ... ... i think i have even got the exhaust so that it runs above the t-case instead of through the frame

i decided to work alittle bit on making the 92-2000 stuff work on the 79 body .....

the first thing we worked on was taking the old gas pedal that was made to sit on the floor and you rest your whole foot on it ... ... i decided i wanted a more modern type hanging pedal and the one from the 92 i that i took off was not going to work with the contor of the floor ... ... so

we took the 79 bracket ground it down took it apart ... . then we took an 85ish bracket and pedal took it apart .....

then we made the 85 pedal so it would attach to the 79 bracket .....

then had to modify the 85 pedal so the 92 throttle cable would attach

got all that done and then realized that we did not have full throttle so it all came apart agan and he had to bend it all up to get more pull out of it.

over all i am happy with it, the bottom of the pedal is a little high off the floor but i can probably get a new set of pads for it

as you can also see in the last pic we got the 92 e-brake bolted up and its going to work great

next thing we tired to do was get the holes drilled for the hydro-boost ..... yes i said it hydro-boost ... ...

it started up all well and good, got 2 holes drilled put the boosted up ... ... and quickly realize that we had it positioned 90 dergees off ... . it was sideways

no problem just turn it and drill 2 more holes ... ... got that done and just as soon as they were both drilled and the booster was fitting good, we decided the pop the hood on my 02 to look at how the booster is supposed to work we now had it up side down

2 more holes in the fire wall and we finally had it sitting the right way that took way to long

now we decided to try and put the master cylinder on, no problem right ... . wrong it sticks out too far and is going to hit the intercooler pipeing ... ...

now we have to figure out how to re plumb the intercooler b/c i am determined to make the 2000 or 2001 parts work on the old truck

and finally a shot of all the pedals and shifters

it is a skyjacker 4 inch soft ride, but i got way more the 4 inch of lift from it ..... the trailduster must be alot lighter then a pickup

i got 2 inchs of lift from the axle swap (originally a dana 44 and chrysler 9. 25) and somewhere around 6 inchs from the springs
