8.4AN Canned Text Message Replies - Can they be changed?

Has anyone tried or figured a way to add to or change the "canned" text message responses? I refuse to pay UConnect for the VR feature but use a few of the built in responses when I need a fast reply to a text. (YES I do pull over before playing with the touch screen).
Seems like there should be a way.

You should still be able to send the canned messages using VR, my Uconnect has long been expired and it still works. If I remember right, my 2014 truck did too......

Yup, I can do that but I wondered if anyone has figured out how to either change or add to those already there.

Can't you just press & hold the VR button until Siri Beeps, then speak any reply you want?
I can on mine and I don't have an active UConnect subscription.

That's wht I here but I'm an android user and this doesn't seem to wake up Google. (sigh)

Just got a new '18. I'm trying to figure out how to turn off the auto "I'm driving" reply. Any hints? Also, how do I get it to text to talk when I want to respond to a text? It will read it to me but only lets me do one of the canned replies. I'm not sure if my truck is talking to me or if it's the phone!

Have you registered with Uconnect?? Talk to text only works with an active Uconnect subscription. You should get a free first year unless things have changed.....

I *think* I registered today. But that might have been something for Sirius. I have been able to make calls and receive and hear texts but only have the option for canned responses.

As Sam said, to get the talk to text to work you need to subscribe to U-Connect through Ram (not the same as Sirius). It is normally a $15-$19 a month fee, but new trucks usually include a free trial period (mine was 6 months).

Without the subscription, you can still make calls, have it read texts and respond with the canned phrases as you have found.

I'll go back in and check to see if I subscribed to the year trial. There's so much going on with the media/phone/etc. it's hard for a tech challenged person to keep up!

If you have a 2018 you should just can the stock software and use Android Auto. Much easier to to use voice interface. It is the only reason I bought a 18 over a used '17 or '16.
