I'm really PO'd about the lack of availability of timely updates for the 8.4AN radio, but I'm addicted to the weather radar and fuel price apps. I presume that data comes in over Sirius XM because I have to have a subscription for the service.

Is there a replacement unit that provides these apps AND has easily upgraded maps, like from Garmin?

Thanks,

Al

$150.00 + fee's for the update FCA Paid $0.00... This has bee confirmed By written Notice. Change our mind on the fuss now? the Map Update I can get for $0.00 also FCA holding hands with Here.com to lock Owners out of Property they own May be OK with you , but its up FCA rear form Me.

you think FCA has any liability with the Nav unit? you think they are not in the business to make money? IF it doesn't make sense to you...don't buy it. Free market!

Yes I expect them to make Money on services performed, NOT to lock owners out of their own equipment They paid for. They Charge $525.00+ for the Nav activation. If this doesn't make sense to You I'm surprised your so willing to pay... Buy the way I'm very close to the hack required to Make updating the Nav available for those that want to use that free market..for free....You highly speak of.

FCA has liability over ANYTHING they sell (including someone else's NAV system) by rights of allowing it in their vehicles. As TC stated, FCA doesn't make a dime off of the updates. The process goes, Garmin gives the updates to FCA (FREE of charge). FCA GIVES these updates to HERE.com (FREE OF CHARGE). HERE.com does who knows what to the FREE update and then resells them for a final price of $161 of which FCA doesn't see a dime of. I've got the emails to back this up.. Seem's you're missing the point here Learjet.

Don't let them rile you up. Not worth it if someone doesn't understand the frustration or the principle of the argument.

COOL! Let me know how it works out.. My PayPal is my email address (ROFLOL) All the best to you TC! Will be calling you about the other thing when life slows down a notch.. Enjoy!

Awesome... I hope Learjet understands Why I feel so strongly against this type of injustice, I also recognize that intellectual property Needs to be protected, Its just NOT the case Here....com Heeheeee

So is here.com assuming some liability if someone runs off a mountain because of GPS directions? Just asking... maybe FCA is trying to keep a third party involved for legal protection. I get your point though...it would be nice to get them directly from Garmin...thanks for the details. :)

BINGO - You are understanding it now, I think Learjet. In a court case, YES, HERE.com (as the actual re-seller of the updates) DOES have liability. FCA would ALSO have liability for allowing HERE.com to make alterations to software used in their vehicles. I'm sure it wouldn't be true in all states but I believe Garmin is absolved of liability just by the fact that they GIVE the updates to FCA free of charge and it is then FCA that allows any alterations by HERE.com. FWIW - NO, I am not a lawyer but I was very close to becoming one and was per-law major.

I just updated my map...not sure why all the fuss over map updates.

1. By the time I get a map update, it is two years out of date. My maps said 2013, so I ordered the 2015 update. They call it the 2015 update because it was released in 2015 but the map data was taken in 2013. It takes two years to put a wrapper on the Garmin data so the 8.4 can read it? That's ridiculous.

2. I want to get the lastest update but it takes the 17.x update to the 8.4 firmware to use the new maps. I've been hearing that FCA is going to load my 8.4 with the OTA update for over 6 months. Hasn't happened.

3. Even if I had the 17.x update for the 8.4, Here.com is reported to be "out of stock" on the map updates. What's the big deal? They should be able to buy USB sticks for less than $5 and load them up in a few minutes each.

4. So there are 500,000 of our trucks out there, 2013-2017. There are trucks well before 2013 that use the same Nav system, and more after 2017, so let's just use the 500,000 number as the number of trucks that have Nav. Oh, I forgot, the same Nav is used in cars and Jeeps so this analysis is even more conservative. 500,000 vehicles with Nav at $150 each. That's $7.5M. 500,000 USB sticks at $5 each is $2.5M. That leaves $5M for development cost and profit. I'm guessing most of that is profit. FCA has a captive audience and that position is enhanced by putting automotive functions and proprietary Apps (Travel Link for one) in the radio head unit so you can't just swap it out.

That's what the fuss is about, as far as I'm concerned....

They must have just ran out for Christmas...got mine in the mail yesterday...took only a couple of days to come in.

500,000 X $150.00 is $75 million... Nope probably after I told them Monday I was going to Hack the System they are changing the codes, the New sticks will require different Hack , the stick is vin dedicated.

And to hijack my own thread, the wait for catalytic converters, the wait for water pumps.....

I checked my (replaced at 40,000) water pump tonight - no vent hole. I'm now at 67,000.
