That comment is really an intelligent comment. If you notice I have been questioning this idea since 2012 and actually been told by a few posters it would never happen. My sources have said otherwise. The "old news" as you said was new news to me and that is all that counts. Other posters have said the cummins does not need 8 gears and 6 is enough. This is farthest from the truth.

Are you having a bad day? You are not the only one interested in an 8spd equipped Cummins Ram. I post about it regular, same as you.

I tow TTs & boats commercially with an Ecodiesel. 450k with 8 speed no repairs. With tow tune it puts out 485 TQ. Even the medium strength 8 speed in my truck would work great behind the gassers and be a big improvement in towing mileage acceleration general drive ability. If ZF has an HD version built for towing I suspect it will work well behind the Cummins.

Well I recon the naysayers see the proof in the pudding this week. The 2500/3500 Power Wagon will get 6.4Hemi standard with 8 speed auto. Look out 2020 for HD with 6.7...It will be an 8 speed auto.

I have the 8HP70 in my Durango RT, and I tell you it shifts and acts like the Allison world trannys at my job. I think it’s great.
I believe this model being talked about is a bigger version, and I think it’ll be great.
Don’t forget, ZF makes transmissions as big as a blimp.

There is a huge difference between a 6.4 with 450 lb/ft of torque and 800+ on the diesel. The ZF would have to be significantly upgraded to handle the increase.

I'd love to see a Transmission like this in the HD Trucks.

No need for 12 Gears but the System is Brilliant.
Have driven Trucks with that transmission for the past 7 years and wouldn't want anything else.
There is nothing better, lighter, and more reliable then an unsyncronized, manual, transmission - that acts like an Automatic.

I'd love to see a Transmission like this in the HD Trucks.

Volkswagen has been using a six speed Dual Clutch transmission for several years controlled in the same manner as the Volvo truck. The dual clutch transmission uses one clutch to for the odd numbered gears and the other clutch for the even numbered gears. It is an awesome transmission behind a high torque / low rpm diesel - a fully automatic transmission without a torque converter and no synchronizers, as neither is needed.

My wife had a 2006 New Beetle diesel with this transmission for a few years and now we have a 2014 Passat diesel with the same transmission. In both of these cars transmissions are very smooth and will lock into any gear manually and stay there. I would love to have a transmission like this in an eight or ten speed version in my truck.

It is hard to believe that a transmission like this isn't behind a Cummins yet.

I miss spoke above my Ecodiesel tow tune is only 465TQ still more than the 6.4. It now has 500,000 miles towing 5 to 9k trailers still shifts quick n firm but smooth. Same trans they been putting in the 1500 since 2013. To my knowledge the only thing it would have ever needed to put behind the gas HDs would be a stronger parking paw & software programing change. Rated for 516TQ. Way overdue as it’s dramatically better gear spacing etc than the current trans.

They have had a 604 TQ rated version for years also seems strengthened parking paw proper programming it would have worked well for the manual trans version of 6.7 for years already. Most common standard big truck trans is/was a 10 speed For years to say there is not much to be gained by replacing the 68RFE is well likely uninformed. My son has the new 2017 1.6 liter 9 speed Chev Cruze 120k already used commercially great car, trans, motor 50 mpg. Excellent car puts most of these hybrids including the one my other son owns to shame and it’s a secret. Chevy magazines etc don’t promote cover it like they should.
