Only for automatic transmission equipped trucks? Keep it. I don't want or need an auto, also with the current prices I can't begin to think about putting that much money into a truck.

I agree, I really hope this isn't the end of the manual trans trucks. . Not that I'm in the market, but I will be in the future, you know 2020 or later...

I guess if you try and hold out for the next "best" Ram, you'll never buy a new truck, as the next better and greater improvement is always around the corner. Kinda like dangling a carrot. I would love to have the power of the new HO but already have my '10 and I am quite satisfied, for now. ;)

When I spoke with Fred Diaz, CEO of Ram a few weeks ago, he very much understood the stanard trans trucks and said they would NOT get rid of thr stick trucks like ford and chev.

As for the lower power, that is odd. Seems like just yesterday the HO trucks were only available in sticks! ;)

Yeah, it does. .

I think it has to do with that stupid DMF. Why don't they just go back to a single flywheel with a quality clutch and let the tq roll!

I predict that the other brand will top the Dodge Cummins by 2013 and by 2014 Dodge will offer close to 900 ft lbs. I'm going to wait a few more days,,, I mean years. LOL It is nice to read that Dodge has its eyes open.

The automatic transmission trucks have been rated to tow more than manual six speeds for years now. I think that occurred with the changeover from the old NV-5600 to the G-56 and dual mass flywheel assembly. Owner reports of their experience with dual mass flywheels seems to prove that was a good decision by Ram.

If would be great if they would offer it for new owners like yourself but I would be surprised if Ram offers retrofit software to allow a 2010 or early 2011 to produce the power offered in the new HO version. If we learn that Ram offers the higher output levels without modifications to the drivetrain it should be easy enough to achieve the same power levels with aftermarket magic blackboxes.

Back when I bought my '01, Cummins dealers were still offering a performance upgrade for some earlier models, don't remember now what models the upgrade was for.

Harvey, The black boxes offered by the aftermarket guys already exist. "Smarty" advertises that their unit will raise the HP and torque levels depending on the level selected. You can run between 30 and 170 HP. They do caution that server engine/transmission damage can occur at higher HP settings if you do not take proper precautions.

Jim W.

Let's see how all this flies when we see $5. 00/gallon + fuel again. What I would like to see is a 300 HP option with DEF to offset the FE advantage that the Punishment Agency has taken away from later model trucks.

The price of fuel wont be a game changer for anyone looking for one of these Gems!

To anyone that can plop down 60K for a truck it absolutely wont mater. ;)

Mac:cool:

If they could package it up as a Mopar or Cummins update, ECM, Torque Convertor ect... As longs as its only a couple of grand (say under $4k) I'd be interested in it. I will NOT put an aftermarket program or chip on it until the motor warranty is gone. I can afford the truck (and fuel) but I do not want to pay for repairs that could have been covered by a warranty.

I wouldn't install an aftermarket programmer or chip either in a brand new truck with a long warranty protecting it. But like you, I too would buy and install a software upgrade if it was offered by MOPAR or Cummins.

Cummins was offering one ten/eleven years ago to bump hp and tq on early 24 valve engines if I'm remembering correctly. My truck then was an HO six speed so I wasn't interested but probably would have been if mine had been an SO.

My truck is at 99,600 miles and I'm thinking about a SmartyJr magic black box for other than performance reasons.

I didn't see or read the details of the necessary upgrades for the new higher torque and higher towing ratings but here they are.

The article states the new HO truck with MOPAR six speed automatic will get a new torque converter, "a beefed up rear axle with a new 4. 10 gear ratio, new rear-axle pinion, new helical gears, upgraded bearings and an aluminum differential cover with large cooling fins. " "There's also a new water-to-oil transmission cooler and new power steering cooler to help manage the higher trailer towing ratings. "

So apparently Ram has believed the torque converter and rear axle assembly were the limiting factors.

Now if they play Fords game and give you a different numerical differential, higher, like a 430 then your weight rating will go higher, just play Fords game.

I understand your reaction but I don't want a box for power increase, I was thinking more of clearing alarms should any start showing up.
