Want to dump V10 in 2000 Ford Excursion

I just got my 6BT crammed into my 87 chevy crew cab. I used a chevy 6. 2 L diesel radiator and by looking at your pictures I am going to venture to say you need to push that engine back untill it hits the firewall and decide where you want to beat it with a hammer or cut out and reform it. I had to install a 2 inch bodylift even after I modified the crossmember that sits underneath the engine. Because I was in a hurry and didn't want to mess arround with the firewall right now. The back of the head is about 1/2" from the pinch seam on the firewall and the fan is about 1" from the radiator. It's a tight fit in there! Good luck!

By the way, looks like your doing an excellent job on your engine. I ballenced mine too. ;)

I try to avoid the body lift if I can, since my Sub. is a 2wd and I like it more low than high, four wheelers are different story... . so I took off the cross member what's located in front of the engine to get enough clearance for the damper and also to be able to lower the engine a bit more. I think that would be pretty much the final location of it. The distance between firewall and block is 40mm = 1. 57" the fan is in contact with radiator. There are three ways to choose from, modify the firewall, use electric fans or move the radiator and AC condenser. I'm not going to touch the firewall, looks like the fans are the way to go, been reading about difficulties to control temps with them but summers in here are not so hot as what some of you guys had, top temps are about 86F and it usually lasts a week or two, regular temps are around 68 to 77.

Although I could change my mind... .....

Some update for a long time. Nothing major hasn't been happening lately, I removed the gas tank and old fuel lines for mods. Right now I'm in a process of fabricating engine mounts, the pics of them should be on my page during Monday.

I checked the pics and you are right, there are some bench vise marks, darn, I should grind it smooth before publishing... . heh. . hee

The trick is to cut a groove on the other side and bend it on your bench vise, after that, fill the remaining groove with welding and grind smooth.

Timo ;)

Timo: I wasn't being critical of your work... I was just wondering how you did it. I saw the marks from what I thought was a bench vise and figured that's what you used.

That's a good tip for bending metal without big, expensive hardware!

Keep up the great work!!!

REakin, what are you using for your intercooler in that '87 Chevy?

Well, at the moment nothing. I decided to use a radiator from a 6. 2 diesel chevy truck. I didn't trust the little 3 core that I had. any how, to make a long story short I have a factory dodge intercooler(93'). It will work if you use the 4 core gasser radiator and have the intercooler lengthened to get arround it. there is another guy in my town that did it that way.

I am going to switch my front clip to that of a 78 chevy. Then I will have room to lengthen the intercooler to get around the huge GM diesel radiator that I used. My truck needs fenders, grill, coresupport and a hood and I like the looks of the old ones better. :D

So mine will be without the intercooler untill I get the body parts and the cash to paint the cab. :(

Timo:

When are you going to do some bad fabrication work? That way we can criticize your work instead of always praising it... :D

As always - it's looking really nice. It's cool to see steady progress on a project like this.
